This is an outstanding large c1840 birdseye maple veneered frame. S trongly stippled birdseye veneer on flat, canted molding with excellent color. The frame is in great condition with a few minor losses and measures 25 1/8 x 35 1/2 with a 21 1/2 x 31 1/4 rabbet. Constructed with square nailed, mitered corners and oxidized mustard color painted sides. A great frame for a painting or portrait as it has a deep rabbet. C1840 Beautiful Federal American Sully Gilded Antique Portrait Folk 9 x 11 Frame

A beautiful c1840 American Sully style gilded frame. Excellent original gilded surface on 2 1/2 wide molding with fantastic patina. Typical flat, canted molding with rounded top edge and stepped site edge. This is a thick, solid frame with square nailed, mitered corners and ochre painted sides. Ame is in fantastic condition with only minor wear and me. Asures 13 1/8 x 15 1/2 with a 9 1/8 x 11 1/2 rabbet (cut down from larger size at some point). This is an excellent c1840 American oxblood red grain painted primitive frame. Beautiful original surface on canted molding with folky painted’grain’ and’swathes’ all done to imitate the expensive crotch mahogany of the period. Square nailed, mitered corners and painted sides. Frame is in excellent condition with only minor wear and measures 14 x 17 1/2 with an 11 x 14 1/2 rabbet. A fantastic period grain painted frame. Antique Victorian Full Length Family Portrait Folk Art Silhouette Painting c1840

You are viewing a n antique early Victorian painted silhouette of a large family 11 including the dog/pony! I would estimate it was painted sometime around 1840. This silhouette is one of three all from the same source, and all three were painted on card on the back of an old print. It also looks like all three silhouettes were framed at some point as they show evidence of yellowing where a frame once displayed them. This silhouette measures approximately 4 1/4 inches by 8 inches and has been matted in a modern mat which measures 6 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches. It is in great condition with no tears or holes. Some minor yellowing to the card where it was once framed. All items I sell are fully guaranteed to be as I have described them. Most of my auctions are listed with no reserve. This is a rare find. An amazing large c1840 American painted portrait frame. Beautiful original, dry, crackled oxblood red surface on 3 3/8 wide molding with pine base. Paint retention is excellent as is the overall condition. Solid lap joint construction with mitered corners. Measures 30 7/8 x 36 1/2 with a 25 x 30 3/8 rabbet. Pr Antique Pa C1840 Folk Art Oil Paintings P&s Custer Related Gen. G. A. Custer

Presenting pair of circa 1830’s – 1840 folk art portrait oil paintings of Phillip and Sarah Custer. There is some old writing that was taped to the versos suggesting the couple were aunt and uncle to George Armstrong Custer. They appear to have benne reThe writing indicates that Phillip was uncle to Gen G. Also that Phillip & Sarah was Gloria’s great grandparents. That said we have not been able to make the connection. We have provided some information that we found on the Custer genealogy site. Philip Custer was born in Pennsylvania on September 11, 1797 Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Rayman daughter of Charles Rayman and Catherine Moore , on December 31, 1831 at Berlin, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. She was born on March 17, 1812 and died on December 20, 1886. Phillip Custer died on May 29, 1874 Sarah Rayman married Philip Custer, son of John Custer on December 11, 1831 at Berlin, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. Sarah Custer died on 20 December 1886 at age 74. She was buried on 23 December 1886 at German Reformed Church Cemetery, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The oil paintings are on stretched canvas. They measure approx 26″x 22″. There has been restoration on them. I will guess the restoration was done in the first quarter or half of the 20th century. Both have been rebacked, re-stretched and varnished. I viewed under a black light and detected very little florescence. If there was repaint it was probably very early on. You will notice that Sarah’s collar is lacking detail on the left side. That suggests that the restorer elected to keep the painting original rather than to add paint. There is one tear at bottom of Sarah. The tear was after they were rebacked. A patch was added on the reverse. They both have some puckering to the canvas. How could we split them up after nearly 200 years! If you can connect the relationship to Gen. George Armstrong Custer it would be a real bonus.
