This is a wonderfully preserved Howard Finster Giraffe W/ Self portrait Folk Art 1993 Original Painting Woodcut. This amazing giraffe is painted on a wood cut sculpture and it is nailed into a supporting base that has Howards thoughts and prayers about getting your name recorded in heaven. It is dated 1993. The center of the giraffe has a wonderful self portrait of himself as a young man of about 28 marked Howard 1944 which is year he hit that age. It measures about 19 inches high and the base is about 7 inches wide by about 5 inches depth. The giraffe is lightly tapped into the base with nails. Reverend Howard Finster is the much celebrated folk art hero of the south. His prolific oeuvre occurred after her had a vision while painting bicycles that art was his real calling. He painted cover art for Talking Heads and REM albums and made a wild appearance on the Tonight Show. He is extremely collectible and writes passages of scripture, prayers and other spiritual ruminations on The back of his pieces. This one has a prayer for children and families creating a safe future together, on the back as well as the date and number of the peace. It also bears his signature bird pictograph.
