This is a classic Totonac / Nahua amate painting from Mexico, circa 1970s. Highly detailed naive scene with a large orange sun with wavy rays over pink hills, colorful houses, flowering trees, and villagers celebrating, dancing, and carrying baskets. Painted in bright gouache/acrylic on handmade fig bark paper with the signature white dotted ground. Condition: Very good vintage condition. Colors are still very bright and vivid. No tears to paper visible. Frame shows light age wear / small nicks consistent with age (see photos). Backing is original kraft paper. No signature visible under mat.
