A charming piece of primitive Americana, this painting on wood mushroom is of the Neversink area near the Catskills Mountains of New York State. The painting features a farm house surrounded by lovely gardens with a pedestrian passing along the road in front. Stone walls lead to a creek with ducks and a pedestrian bridge. A haystack sits in the background. At the bottom, the artist has written Neversink 1908. The texture of the mushroom is a nice addition to the dimensionality of the artist’s work. It’s 16″ at its widest and about 8″ tall. There is some chipping along the edge, as well as some wear to the paint on the high spots of the mushroom, as shown in the photos.
