19th Century St Rita of Cascia Oil on Tin Retablo Mexican Folk Art 14x10
19th Century Mexican Oil on Tin Retablo of Saint Rita of Cascia. A beautiful 19th-century Mexican devotional retablo depicting Saint Rita of Cascia, one of the most beloved saints of the Catholic faith and patron saint of impossible causes. Painted in oil on a hand-cut sheet of tin, the composition portrays Saint Rita wearing her Augustinian habit with a radiant gilt halo, holding a crucifix while gesturing toward her heart. Her forehead bears the traditional stigmata associated with her devotion to Christ. The deep green background is framed by stylized gilt clouds, creating a striking yet humble folk-art composition characteristic of Mexican devotional paintings of the 19th century. This piece retains its early hanging ribbon threaded through the original suspension hole. The painting displays the honest wear expected of an authentic devotional object that has been cherished for generations. Areas of paint loss, oxidation, edge wear, scattered rust, and a beautifully aged surface contribute to its character and authenticity. Whether displayed in a religious collection, Spanish Colonial interior, or curated gallery wall, this retablo offers remarkable presence and historical charm. Approximately 14 inches tall. Approximately 10 inches wide. Good antique condition for its age. Surface exhibits age-related paint loss, craquelure, oxidation, edge wear, scattered rust, and minor bends to the hand-cut tin. The reverse shows expected oxidation and age. Original hanging ribbon remains. Please review all photographs carefully, as they are part of the description.

Every family has someone whose portrait quietly watched over the living room for decades. Long after the stories faded and the names became harder to remember, the painting remained-its subject forever frozen in the dignity of another generation. This original portrait is one of those rare survivors. Painted in what appears to be oil on artist board and signed D. O’Bella Savage, it captures Wilma Snethen seated in a deep green dress with the calm confidence and reserved elegance so often seen in mid-century American portraiture. The warm palette, simple composition, and honest brushwork give it the unmistakable charm of regional folk art. Even more compelling is the history that accompanies it. The handwritten inscription on the reverse identifies the sitter as Wilma Snethen, noting she was the great aunt of the family from whom this painting was acquired. According to the family, it descended from Maude Gulker’s collection, preserving a direct family connection through generations. Research suggests Wilma Snethen later lived in Oklahoma, adding another piece to the story behind this remarkable portrait. Measuring approximately 17.5″ x 20.5″ including the original frame, this is more than a decorative painting-it’s a genuine piece of one family’s history, ready to begin the next chapter in another home. I’ve affectionately nicknamed the piece “Wilma from Oklahoma”. Material: Oil on board. Condition: Vintage pre-owned – signs of wear (see photos). Acrylic and spray paint. ORIGINAL PAINTING BRUT ART. Otis Bruhserko is a “retired” street artist from New York, now based in Arizona. Known worldwide for his illegal graffiti in his youth, he’s chosen not to reveal his old tag name, though his past still shapes his style. These days, Otis is shifting from walls to paper, focusing on text-based art and his signature Bruhserko character. His story runs deeper than paint. One of those scams kept Otis out of school entirely, leaving him illiterate. He never attended kindergarten, elementary, or high school. Otis taught himself to recognize words by sight and uses text-to-speech to get by, but for years he hid his struggles. Now, with a family of his own, he’s done hiding. Through his art, he’s confronting the challenge that has eluded him since childhood-words and letters-and turning a lifelong struggle into his creative fuel. Acid free, lignin free, archival safe SLEEVE. With backing inside rigid mailer. Art is looking for its forever home. Not a fan of anything perfect most of the art has imperfections on purpose. I want it to feel created not manufactured. Any questions feel free to ask.
