Frame; very wavy glass with striations, air bubbles and a lot of character. Men fishing in a boat on a stream. Pastel is in excellent condition, no damage noted and the colors are rich as if they were just painted. Frame measurements are 26″ wide, 20 1/2″ tall and is 1 1/2 thick. Original lemon gilt finish, notation of small amount of minor losses to gesso overlay. Reframed into its original frame with new backing. Provenance: Salem, NJ collection, the previous owner was active in the towns historical society. Beautiful antique folk art style painting. Painting is framed in a beautiful wood and plaster frame. Frame shows damage and has been painted gold. The painting was held in place by tape which has also left residue on the backside of the frame. The tape is no longer securing it so it will need some work (or new tape) to fit securely in frame. It looks to be signed A. Possible water damage stain on back but no water damage visible on front of painting. Frame measures approx 18×14.5. 19th Century American Antique Landscape/Seascape Painting On Canvas. Canvas measures about 23″ x 34 1/2″. NOTE: SHIPS WITHOUT THE FRAME, FRAME IS TOO DAMAGED AND IS JUST TO SHOW HOW WE GOT IT. Oil on stretched canvas. The canvas has nice heavy paint texture throughout. Some alligatoring (craquelure) in spots, and one small tear/hole in sky. May have older touch ups in sky. Has some light paint overspray, (tiny white specks resting on surface) from careless housepainters painting near it sometime in its past. Could be professionally cleaned off if you ever had it cleaned. We have not cleaned it as the losses are somewhat expected being a 120+ year old painting. And they do not detract from everyday enjoyment at normal viewing distances. The painting has a great overall patina and aura about it, and will surely add interest to your home decor. 19thC Antique Mourning Folk Art, Sarah Bennett, Memorial Watercolor Painting

Framed under early glass, with its original wood backboard, this is a rare American Victorian era? Folk art memorial painting. It comes in its 12 x 16 wooden frame. It depicts a woman in distress over the death of Sarah Bennett. In the backround are weeping willow trees, as well as other mourners in the cemetery along with a cathedral in the back round. The white marble memorial is marked To The Memory of Sarah Bennett who died April 12-1837 aged 39. We did some research on the internet and found that Sarah Bennett (married to John Bennett) was born to John and Bethiah Clark on June 27, 1798. Sarah is buried in North Rochester Cemetery in Rochester Ma. There are foxing stains on the picture, and the backboard also shows a large foxing? There are old nails holding the backboard in place. The frame size is 12 X 16 and the print size is 9X 13. It looks like it is a watercolor, but this is speculation as I do not know anything about art.
