A charming piece of primitive Americana, this painting on wood mushroom is of the Neversink area near the Catskills Mountains of New York State. The painting features a farm house surrounded by lovely gardens with a pedestrian passing along the road in front. Stone walls lead to a creek with ducks and a pedestrian bridge. A haystack sits in the background. At the bottom, the artist has written Neversink 1908. The texture of the mushroom is a nice addition to the dimensionality of the artist’s work. It’s 16″ at its widest and about 8″ tall. There is some chipping along the edge, as well as some wear to the paint on the high spots of the mushroom, as shown in the photos. Offered is a miniature antique folk art building in the form of an old country Schoolhouse. The building is a coin bank, dating circa the 1920’s-1930’s. It is made of painted pine with glassed interior, and measures approximately 10″ tall at the coin-drop, 5.75″ wide at the roofline, and 9.5 long, from the front steps to the two-holer outhouse door with painted crescent moon. Condition is good, as shown, having some wear and soiling commensurate with age. The plug on the bottom of the bank is missing, as is some of the wooden window framing. There is also some paint wear and loss. The bank goes “ding” when you drop a penny in the slot. Please contact me if you’d like more info.
