Original 19th-century Victorian portrait rendered in charcoal/crayon on paper, professionally laid down on canvas and stretched over a wooden frame. This format was commonly used in the late 1800s for commissioned family or studio portraits. The subject appears to be a gentleman wearing period attire consistent with the 1870s-1890s, including distinctive facial hair and formal coat. The green background and dry-media technique are typical of the era. Charcoal / crayon / pastel on paper. Paper mounted to canvas (laid on canvas). Canvas stretched over wood frame. Edge wear and losses visible along canvas edges. Areas of surface wear and smudging consistent with age. Paper lifting in spots from canvas backing. No visible artist signature. Not framed (frame shown in photos not included unless you plan to include it). Please review all photos carefully-they are part of the description. Height:25 inches. Width: 21 inches. Depth: 1 inch.

Wonderful early period wooden fool in fabulous condition. Well intact, only minor paint loss, gorgeous period garb, fully jointed and articulates well. I’m surprised that the pig tails have managed to stay intact, but they are. Please use photos and zoom feature for most accurate condition. Measures 9 5/8 tall. Please get them approved before purchasing. Any questions must be answered before the sale. Almost everything I offer is old and has likely spent time in a basement or garage. Pair of reverse paintings – appear to be all original. Both ladies “portraits” are possibly from a die cut? Reverse painting of double hearts surround the lady on all four corners. Each in matching painted black frames. Backing is covered in wallpaper. Previous owner hung them up using thumbtacks. 5 x 6 inches. I have not removed either from their frames. Just dusted them off.
