Original Signed Primitive Oil Painting on Masonite Board. Painted by Robert Cliff in January, 1995. Highly stylized depiction of horse and cowboy. HIs subjects exceptionally developed chest, arms and legs contrast with their tiny head and waist. Many of my customers have found his work to be erotic. Robert Cliff was a prolific painter with a focused on western scenes, the Civil War and Explorers of the frontier. He worked for the Postal Service and traveled extensively. He passed away this year. He resided in Madison, WI. His unconventional work leaves a lasting impression on those who have viewed it. Painting is 16″ by 20″. I plan to list more of his work this weekend.

Eric didn’t’discover’ art until he was in his 50s, partially due to the idea that he couldn’t be an artist being colorblind, and partially that he was raised in an environment where art was considered a waste of time because’art doesn’t put food on the table. Since his first art sale in 2014, he has been making up for lost time. E9art can be found on twitter, facebook, pinterest and tumblr. Antique Primitive American Folk Art Arabian Horse Ranch Painted Wood Sign 40s
This is a fabulous and rustic Antique Old Primitive American Folk Art Arabian Horse Ranch Painted Wood Sign, promoting the Lazy L Ranch that once resided in Artesia now part of Norwalk, California. This sign approximately dates to the 1940’s – 1950’s and advertises Arabians at Stud. ” The names of the studding horses are Azeke, and “San Benito, ” and the sign reads: “Horses Boarded. ” Additionally, someone has written “NO TRESPASSING at the top edge of the sign. Each side of this sign features the painted profile of an Arabian stallion. The address for this location reads 16708 Shoemaker, Artesia. This address is now under the borders of Norwalk, a neighboring city. The only information I could find on this ranch comes from two issues of the Long Beach Press Telegram from 1952 and 1953, which have been digitized online. Approximately 32 1/2 x 47 inches. Good condition for half a decade of outside use and weathering, with expected paint loss, paint flaking, edge wear, and some loosening and wood splitting to the original frame please see photos. However, it would be an easy fix to re-attach. Acquired in Los Angeles County, California. If you like what you see, I encourage you to make an Offer. Old, 1968 oil painting on heavy Masonite board depicting an American Western scene. Signed lower left by the artist, “Denver” along with artist device bear claw or longhorn? Untouched condition painting has never even been cleaned. I see no condition problems and the colors are still really nice. The frame has a lot of loss but this doesn’t jump out at me because it has a sort of distressed look anyway. In this painting by Denver, we have a Native American man. He has a knife on his belt, a peace pipe with feathers dangling down, feathers in his hair, jewelry, etc. He’s reaching up toward the sky, perhaps doing some ritual. There’s a cattle skull on the ground. His horse is off grazing, to the right. I’m unsure if this would be considered the American West or Southwest. The mountain or big butte has some nice, pink color to it. It was in their American Indian and Western Firearm Antique Sale. It was titled “Buffalo Range”. Since it was dated and from 1984, I take it that the artist actively painted in the 1960’s, 70’s and 80’s. The artist, Denver, will be hard to research because everything from Colorado, where Denver is, and the singer John Denver! Will come up in search results. I think he was a talented, Regionalist, Outsider Artist. It seems like people think of Folk Art and Naive art as at least similar to Outsider Art but they’re just all terms I guess. Denver was painting in his own style, a blend of realism and colorful impressionism. Since he apparently specialized in Native American themes such as this and the bison, he carved out a genre for himself much like Albert Looking Elk did with painting Taos Pueblo scenes. Oil on Masonite board. Signed and dated “Denver”, “68” and with artist’s device. Mounted in shabby chic, distressed frame. Painting measures 16 x 14 inches. Overall measurements with frame: 19 5/8 x 17 5/8 inches. Painting itself in excellent original condition. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”.
