Artist Hand Signed and Dated 9-1988 (Copy Right 1987). Approx: 10″ H (with Santa on horse) x 8″ L x 3″ W (5″ W with baskets), 12 oz. Sale DOES NOT Include the Plaque with FOLK ART By Mark Glandon. Please Note this Sale is for Santa Riding Horse with Toys Only! Really neat hand signed & dated folk art work by Chillicothe Ohio master carver Mark Glandon. Great display size toy wooden Santa on horse bringing toys! The Santa is not attached to the horse and is individually carved of course. The basket with toys is detachable as well. Sculpture has a leather saddle with leather harness and bells, stirrups and hair tail. Basket with wood Teddy Bear & wood box. Lots of fun details to this work. Largely known for his Christmas Santa figures, Mark did/does various other works like rocking horses, animals such rabbits, birds and even a piece (Uncle Sam on a horse with an American Flag) that is in the Clinton Presidential library. We do not have extensive background information on the artist other than from online resources and what collectors have shared, but it appears Mark Glandon’s works gained prominence through the years (mid 1980’s-2000’s) at art, craft and folk art trade shows with people literally lining up early, just to get a chance at a piece. They are very nice solid works and have a real classic folk art appeal that shows why people love them. We have found his pieces from the mid 1980’s up into the early 2000’s, but not sure of his full production range up to recent times. We only gently dusted the item off but it is in great shape with only very moderate wear as with any displayed piece. Antique Norway Norwegian Tine or Tina Box Bride Box. A wonderful piece of Hand Painted Folk Art. Oval bentwood box or tine form, with lapped and glued sides. There is an arch handle on top. Painted with beautiful flowers, vines, and shapes. It says Do not cry, so shall you have your Tina in old Norwegian. This was used to carry baked goods. Could also be for trinkets and treasures. Box opens but is tight due to age. Be careful when opening. Box is approximately 6 x 3.5 x 3. There is a very light pencil mark on the bottom, which could be a name. I cant make it out. The damage to this painting would make an excellent restoration project. Four very large tears to the canvas and heavy discoloration. Vertical scratches to the paint at the left side. An amazing painting with such historic details! The painting does have wear…. Loose canvas on some of the sides… From an antique lovers perspective…. It’s utterly fabulous! I’m dating this piece from 1779 to 1783 due to the clothing attire and painting details. The dress the lady is wearing dates to the late 1700’s and the soldiers uniform dates after 1779 when George Washington ordered soldiers of the Continental Army wear blue coats. The red trim on the uniform and the windmill in the background make me think Virginia BUT…. This attire was worn in a few other states as well. The couples cheery faces and the entire piece will bring a smile to your face! It’s delicate yet perfectly displayable. It could be preserved in a frame or however you see fit. It’s a lovely piece any collector of period paintings…. Or war memorabilia will cherish! Please see all of the photos and judge the type and condition for yourself.
