EARLY ANTIQUE BENTWOOD FOLK ART BRIDES BOX ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED GREEN FLORAL. Up for sale is this wonderful old bride’s box. It’s might be Scandinavian and it might be Swedish. We don’t know origin or age of this item but we’d guess that it’s from the 1800’s. It’s a wonderful size and is in great condition for its age. It has two little wood carved post catches that hold the lid in place. You push these catches out and it releases the lid. They hold the lid in place when the lid is on. The lid has a small thin wire handle to lift the lid off. On the lid, you can see the initials ARS stenciled in the lid on one side and KAS scribed by hand in the lid on the other end. On the underside of the lid, you can see some handwriting in pencil but we can’t read what it says. It appears some of it is another language but we are not sure. The color is a dark green painted color with black undertones. The flowers are a Primitive red with white and black accents. It’s very nice and well done in that folk art way we love! The box has wide, overlapping two-finger jointed band construction. The ends of the bands appear to have a stitched leather? Binding on them that goes through to the inside of the box. There are a couple of small square nails near the end of the bands. There are other, round and shiny nails around the base of the box that appear to be newer than the other nails but don’t detract from the appearance. The box measures 9.75″ L x 6″ W x 4 H. It has some fading, crackling paint, edgewear, divots in the surface, streaks, paint loss, wood missing here and there, streaks, paint loss, paint chips. The condition of this is exactly what you want to see in old true antiques!! Please look at the photos for a more accurate description and detail and ask lots of questions if needed. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. We will do our best to answer your questions. We will handle them on a case-by-case basis. We will do the same. American Primitive Portrait of Child in Red Shoes with Kitten c. Portraiture was by far the most prevalent art form among itinerant painters in the American Northeast. ANTIQUE FOLK ART 42 CUBBY WOOD APOTHECARY ORIGINAL BLACK PAINT STORE DISPLAY. Up for sale is this wonderful 42 drawer / cubby apothecary style cabinet. The color is a painted black on the cubby faces and the cabinet sides and top are natural wood color as are the interiors of the cubbies. It makes it very nice looking. It’s a big piece! The paint has obvious chips, nicks, edgewear, bumps and patina as you can see in the pictures. It is a wonderful and one of a kind! This would make a great piece to store things in like movies, DVD’s, music or kid’s items. The face of each cubby have a little lip to it which keeps things from rolling out. The back is old wood and made from 6 longs horizontally mounted boards. There is gap between the boards just under the bottom of each cubby which allows air to get to each cubby. We don’t see any square nails but there are a bunch of old rusty round nails. The cabinet measures 71.75″ W x 49.5″ H x 9-1/2 D. It weighs about 60 lbs. We don’t know the age of this item but it looks early 1900’s / 20th century to us. Early 1800’s American Folk Art Painting Portrait Child Cat Kitten Primitive. Please read full item description. Canvas: 12 1/2″ x 16″ x 3/4 deep. In Frame: 16″ x 19 1/4″ x 2 1/2 deep. This beautiful folk portrait came from rural upstate NY. I’ve enjoyed having this piece in my collection for the past 10 years. Clothing indicates circa early/mid 1800’s. Original everything, including nails. Canvas is in outstanding condition: no holes, restoration, relining or repairs. I bought it untouched and left it that way. There are two barely visible pale white spots on the child’s shoulder wax? And a small shiny drip under the lower lip (shown in images). This canvas is mounted on a slightly asymmetrical handmade oval stretcher. (appears to be original to the canvas). Portrait is fit in a late 19th century hardwood frame. Early Antique Folk Art Hand Painted Wedding Trunk Blanket Chest Dovetailed Dated
EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND PAINTED WOOD WEDDING TRUNK BLANKET CHEST DOVETAILED DATED 1868! Up for sale is this amazing hand painted trunk, blanket chest or mule chest. It’s a beautiful large chest with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has an wonderful, dark brown black base color with reddish-orange, and faded yellow (tannish) highlighted accents in the folk art / floral painting. It looks like the flowers are tulips to us and there are reddish accents here and there. The paint appears to be all original and has nicks, chips and scrapes on it as you’d expect from and item of this age. You can also see the painted date on the front of 1868!! The top of the trunk is just plain with the exception of one very faint flower in the center. The lid has a lot of patina, scuffs and wear from things being on it and years of use. The front board of the top is likely newer and was replaced as the side boards of the top are fatter than the front board of the top. Under the trunk the legs are square and hold the trunk up off the ground. The legs have big wooden pegs that go through the bottom of the trunk and come up on the inside. They are about 1 in diameter. The legs are nicked, dinged and worn as you’d expect. There are also a number of old worm holes in the legs. There are not that many worm holes in the bottom board of the trunk which we thought was nicely surprising! Please look closely at the pictures and you can see all of this. On the front there’s an black iron escutcheon for the lock. You can see the lock on the pictures of the inside. We do not have the key and don’t know if the lock works. We do know that there’s nothing for the lock to grab hold of on the lid so having a key may not help things if you are trying to lock things up. There probably was an iron peg / shank that would come down and fit in the lock but it’s gone. Under the lid on the left side there’s a mouse hole where a little critter gnawed a hole to get in! Inside there is a little till on the left side. This was often used for small valuables and items so they did not get lost in the big trunk. The till has a hinged wood lid. This is not common as usually these little tills get broken or lost over time. There’s another mouse hole in the till on the vertical part of the right side under the lid toward the back. The trunk’s lid is held on to the back with old hinges. We don’t think these are original and you can see where there may have been other hinges at one point. The hinges have newer screws in them but still old, just not as old as the trunk. There are mouse holes, or wear at those two old hinge locations also. Just under the lid, on the front, there are a lot of little holes. Perhaps this had an upholstered top or something at one point as they look like little tack marks all along the top of the front board under the lid. The hand painting on the front and sides is a very colorful collection of flowers and organic motifs. The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside, the trunk is clean but worn. There are old worm holes in the bottom and around the inside as you’d expect from an old item like this. The sides of the trunk as are dovetailed in to the front and back. There’s also some sort of swirls on the side in a very dark color and the color of the trunk. This is very hard to see because of the color. The dovetails are also hard to see but they are the thick kind. If you look closely in the black area you can see them. The back of the trunk is clean and has scrapes and nicks. And yes, it has a little critter hole down at the bottom! Whatever was in this trunk must have been very inviting to those dang critters!! The trunk has a wonderful patina to it. The trunk has some paint wear, paint loss, edge wear, nicks, scrapes, dings, fade, wear and overall age marks. There are spots, scuffs, streaks and grain lift. You can see all of this in the pictures and it’s what you’d expect from a trunk that’s almost 150 years old!! It’s a large size and measures. 48 inches wide at the top. 44.5 inches wide at the trunk. 20 3/4 inches deep at the top. 20 inches deep at the trunk. 2 1/2 inches high at the drawer. 18 1/2 inches deep inside the trunk. 50 x 29 x 25. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It’s one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items.
AAFA EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART ORIGINAL BLUE PAINTED WOOD PANTRY BOX. Up for sale is this wonderful light blue-grey firkin!! Some people call them a flour buckets, sugar buckets, pales or pantry boxes!! Wow, look at the wonderful soft color on this one!!! It has what appears to be its original paint. This firkin is a nice large sized firkin with a wood handle with a wood knobbin where the handle connects to the firkin. It has two bands, one at the top and one at the bottom. Both are finger-ended bands. They have nailed the ends. On the lid, the band has a staple and a nail as you can see in the close-up pictures. The staple holds a crack together in the edge of the lid. Both bands are just a little loose and wiggle if you move them but they don’t shift up and down. The vertical staves are fairly tight on this firkin. There are some chips in the bottom of the staves in a couple of places. This firkin is also very clean inside. It’s lid matches but has spots, grunge and patina on it as you can see in the pictures. You can also see that there is a crack in the lid. It’s not loose but there is a crack and on the top there’s a chunk of wood missing. On the inside of the lid you can see the stenciled letters W G YOUNG. This firkin is a nice soft blue-grey color and the paint is dry and patina-ed. It appears to be the original paint. You can see wood under the color here and there as well as some darker areas. This firkin measures 9.125″ in diameter at the top and 10″ in diameter at the bottom. It’s about 9.75 high and weighs about 3 lbs.
