AAFA ANTIQUE EARLY FOLK ART 1800 CUPBOARD PIE SAFE SQUARE NAILS DOVETAILED PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive pie safe / cupboard. It’s a nice sized two door cabinet with a single drawer up above. On the sides, there are punched tins little stars on them as you can see in the pictures. They appear to be the original tins which are in good shape as you can see in the pictures but not without issues. There is a hole in the second tin on the left side. There’s some paint on the tins and some paint not on the tins. 38.75″ wide at the top by 16″ deep at the top it’s 50. It’s a wonderful Primitive red painted finish with the richness of the patina of age. The back is great looking and has stains and patina. It also has letters stenciled across the top of the back and they say “AWG”. There are square nails in the top along with rusty round nails. We took a close up picture for you. On the front, the left door has a crack / split in it in the middle and the right door has a crack / split along the right side. You can see these in the pictures. On the drawer, the left knob / pull is a mushroom style while the right one is not. There’s a little metal thumb turn on the doors and it has some marking, scarring and twisting marks from years of use. Inside there’s a latch bolt that apparently was added to keep the left door in place and then the thumb turn keeps the other door to the left door. The doors have Shaker style hinges. Inside there are three shelves which have patina and wear on them. The top is wood but is not painted. The drawers are not dovetailed. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! The cabinet has some edge wear, scrapes, scratches, chunks of wood missing, chips, patina, fading, variation of color, mouse holes, rounding, and nicks. Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART PRIMITIVE WOOD DRY WRITING SLOPE SQUARE NAILS DOVETAILED. Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive writing slope or desk with cubbies or slots. This is an old, table top style desk. The lid lifts up but it doesn’t stay up by itself. We propped it up with a tube in the pictures and the tube it not included. Above the writing slope there are compartments for documents. There are 18 horizontal slots and one large area to the left. The big area to the left has 3 vertical slots but there are no dividers for those slots. This is an old desk with a great look! It’s a wonderful dry wood, greyish green painted alligatored and crackled color with wood undertones. It’s a very nice color. In some areas, it’s a lighter green, like across the front. Inside, it’s a little grungy and shows years of use and age. The paint appears to be all original and is dry, alligator, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn and patina-ed! This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor desk like this! What a great look! There are a couple of Shaker style metal hinges in the top so the top can hinge upward. On the front of the desk and in the top of the writing slope there are holes where there used to be a lock of some sort. The bottom of the desk is made from 3 boards and there is some separation between the boards as you can see in the pictures of the bottom and the pictures of the inside. The top of the cubbies is one board and that board has warped some over time as you can see in the pictures from the sides. We don’t know the age or origin of this cabinet but we do know that it’s adorable! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. EARLY AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART CUPBOARD SQUARE NAILS DOVETAILED ORIGINAL RED AND BLUE PAINT SIGNED AND DATED 1855. Up for sale is this fabulous old cabinet or cupboard. It’s a nice old cupboard with wonderful red and blue color. It’s a two-door cabinet with seven shelves inside. We don’t know how old it is, but it’s dated 1855 and looks early 1800’s to us! The cabinet is beautiful worn and patina-ed. The cabinet measures 61.25″ W x 40.75″ H x 15.5 D. All dimensions are without the molding. This old cabinet is a survivor. The back is made from four wide vertical boards as you can see in the pictures. There are big square nails along with other, smaller round nails, and some round nails too. There’s also a couple of places where there’s some old damage as you can see in the photos. The damage appears to be very old. It’s a wonderful dry wood and is a beautiful red color with blue trim and blue inside the doors. The paint appears to be all original. The top has a trim / molding on it but only across. The molding on the left and right sides is missing. The back is not painted. The paint is dry, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, faded, edge-worn. On the front doors, there are moldings on each door. The bottom moldings on the doors have lifted a little. There’s also a center astragal as you can see in the pictures. The knobs on the doors are mushroom-like. The knobs have worn over time and show it some. Around the knob on the left side there’s a lot of hand wear and the paint has worn off the door. On the top middle part of the doors there’s little floral motif in a cream color. Above the molding there is 18 on the left door and 55 on the right door. There are also initials, it appears to say L. The hinges are heavy forged iron hinges with big straps on the inside of the doors. There are big peened nails in the hinges as you can see in the pictures. On top you can see the big dovetails where the top is dovetailed in to the sides and vice versa. Inside the shelves are not all nailed in and some shelves are in two parts. The ledgers that hold the shelves appear to be very old if not original. You can see on the outside of the sides where some of the nails poked through. There is one newer board on the lower left inside. One shelf has a cabinet catch to hold the right door shut. With the astragal the right door hold the left door shut. And, there are some mouse holes. We have some felt pads on the bottom that you can see in the pictures. There are more pads on one side than the other. If you get the cabinet, it might need to be shimmed in order to get it more level. We don’t know the age or origin of this cabinet but we do know that it’s special! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close-up ones. It’s a great old cabinet/cupboard!! We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a great cabinet! AAFA ANTIQUE HAND PAINTED BLUE BUREAU DESK RARE OOAK DOVETAILED SQUARE NAILS. Up for sale is this amazing and beautiful old desk or bureau. It’s an old flip top desk and it’s got a one-of-kind, hand painted motif. The main desk is a nice dark blue color with light blue areas as well as wood undertones peeking through here and there. There’s also oyster white, reddish orange, and dark blue accents on the motifs and trim. It’s all hand painted and quite amazing! The desk has a stretcher base with turned legs and bun feet. Inside it’s definitely from the pen and quill era as you can see ink spills on the inside. There are two compartments on either side of the single drawer which is a nicely dovetailed drawer as you can see in the pictures. On the drawer, in pencil, it’s written 1778. On the front of the desk there is a dark metal escutcheon and a skeleton key hole but we don’t have the key and we don’t know if the lock works. Inside the lid there are black strap iron hinges. They are really cool looking. They do have some newer, but rusty screws in the right hinge as you can see in the pictures but you can see where there is a nail in the left hinge that comes up and through the top of the desk and is bent over. We don’t know the age of this desk, but it looks like 1700’s American to us based on the hardware, the style and the bun feet. We’re not experts and we don’t know so you make the call. There are big square nails in the desk and we took some close up pictures of them. There are some condition issues here and there, but for it’s age, it’s in amazing shape. There are some worm holes in the back, especially along the joint in the wood. The bun feet and stretcher base have some issues including beetle damage, cracks and deterioration. There trim is cracked as you can see in the pictures. Has nicks, dings, scrapes, cuts, cracks, stains, chips, chunks, edge-wear and an absolutely wonderful patina. It’s truly an amazing piece! The desk measures 38.25″ H to the back and 32″ H to the front edge x 36.25″ W x 23″ D. This is a great desk and would make an amazing conversation piece. It’s sure to be a conversation starter! We can also recommend a couple of shippers. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. We will do our best to answer your questions. We will do the same. Early Antique Folk Art Hand Painted Wedding Trunk Blanket Chest Dovetailed Dated
EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND PAINTED WOOD WEDDING TRUNK BLANKET CHEST DOVETAILED DATED 1868! Up for sale is this amazing hand painted trunk, blanket chest or mule chest. It’s a beautiful large chest with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has an wonderful, dark brown black base color with reddish-orange, and faded yellow (tannish) highlighted accents in the folk art / floral painting. It looks like the flowers are tulips to us and there are reddish accents here and there. The paint appears to be all original and has nicks, chips and scrapes on it as you’d expect from and item of this age. You can also see the painted date on the front of 1868!! The top of the trunk is just plain with the exception of one very faint flower in the center. The lid has a lot of patina, scuffs and wear from things being on it and years of use. The front board of the top is likely newer and was replaced as the side boards of the top are fatter than the front board of the top. Under the trunk the legs are square and hold the trunk up off the ground. The legs have big wooden pegs that go through the bottom of the trunk and come up on the inside. They are about 1 in diameter. The legs are nicked, dinged and worn as you’d expect. There are also a number of old worm holes in the legs. There are not that many worm holes in the bottom board of the trunk which we thought was nicely surprising! Please look closely at the pictures and you can see all of this. On the front there’s an black iron escutcheon for the lock. You can see the lock on the pictures of the inside. We do not have the key and don’t know if the lock works. We do know that there’s nothing for the lock to grab hold of on the lid so having a key may not help things if you are trying to lock things up. There probably was an iron peg / shank that would come down and fit in the lock but it’s gone. Under the lid on the left side there’s a mouse hole where a little critter gnawed a hole to get in! Inside there is a little till on the left side. This was often used for small valuables and items so they did not get lost in the big trunk. The till has a hinged wood lid. This is not common as usually these little tills get broken or lost over time. There’s another mouse hole in the till on the vertical part of the right side under the lid toward the back. The trunk’s lid is held on to the back with old hinges. We don’t think these are original and you can see where there may have been other hinges at one point. The hinges have newer screws in them but still old, just not as old as the trunk. There are mouse holes, or wear at those two old hinge locations also. Just under the lid, on the front, there are a lot of little holes. Perhaps this had an upholstered top or something at one point as they look like little tack marks all along the top of the front board under the lid. The hand painting on the front and sides is a very colorful collection of flowers and organic motifs. The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside, the trunk is clean but worn. There are old worm holes in the bottom and around the inside as you’d expect from an old item like this. The sides of the trunk as are dovetailed in to the front and back. There’s also some sort of swirls on the side in a very dark color and the color of the trunk. This is very hard to see because of the color. The dovetails are also hard to see but they are the thick kind. If you look closely in the black area you can see them. The back of the trunk is clean and has scrapes and nicks. And yes, it has a little critter hole down at the bottom! Whatever was in this trunk must have been very inviting to those dang critters!! The trunk has a wonderful patina to it. The trunk has some paint wear, paint loss, edge wear, nicks, scrapes, dings, fade, wear and overall age marks. There are spots, scuffs, streaks and grain lift. You can see all of this in the pictures and it’s what you’d expect from a trunk that’s almost 150 years old!! It’s a large size and measures. 48 inches wide at the top. 44.5 inches wide at the trunk. 20 3/4 inches deep at the top. 20 inches deep at the trunk. 2 1/2 inches high at the drawer. 18 1/2 inches deep inside the trunk. 50 x 29 x 25. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It’s one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. Early Antique Folk Art Hand Painted Wedding Trunk Blanket Chest Dovetailed Dated
EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND PAINTED WOOD WEDDING TRUNK BLANKET CHEST DOVETAILED DATED 1866! Up for sale is this amazing hand painted trunk, blanket chest or mule chest. It’s a beautiful long and large chest with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a snipe hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has a wonderful, dark black base color with red, white, faded yellow and green highlighted accents in the folk art / floral painting. It looks like the flowers are tulips to us and there are white little accents here and there. The paint appears to be all original and has nicks, chips, scrapes, fading and patina on it as you’d expect from an item of this age. You can also see the painted date on the front of 1866!! The top of the trunk was painted but has worn off. You can still see some of the floral accent on the back portion of the lid. This was probably used as a seat at some point and the paint rubbed off where the people sat. The lid has a lot of patina, scuffs and wear as well as some green paint. Under the trunk, the legs are square and hold the trunk up off the ground. We have felt pads on the legs to protect our floors but those could be removed if you don’t want them. The construction of the trunk has dovetail mortises on the ends. You can easily see these on the sides and back. They are there on the front but the dark paint hides them, look closely. The top and bottom have wooden peg construction and you can see pegs across the front lip of the lid as well as in the bottom into the sides, front and back of the trunk. The lid is held on with old, forged iron snipe-style hinges. You have to jiggle the lid a little to get it to sit down on the frame as it has to come over the front of the trunk before it will sit down all the way. Inside it’s pretty clean. There are a lot of marks in the wood, we don’t know what these are from. The inside is a very dark brown color and the nicks/marks are light. There is a center divider and makes two compartments. The hand painting on the front is a collection of flowers and organic motifs. The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside, the trunk is clean but worn. The back of the trunk is pretty clean considering its age. Look at the back board, it’s one big board!! That’s a nice piece of wood! The trunk has a wonderful patina to it. The trunk has some paint wear, paint loss, edge wear, nicks, scrapes, dings, fade, wear and overall age marks. There are spots and scuffs. You can see all of this in the pictures and it’s what you’d expect from a trunk that’s over 150 years old!! It’s a large size and measures. 92.25 long at the top. 90.75 long at the trunk. 16.75 inches deep at the top. 14.75 deep inside. You will need to coordinate this. Plycon is a good source for a blanket wrap shipper. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It’s one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items. Rare Folk Art Paint Decorated Pennsylvania Dovetailed Bible Box Circa1800 NR
This rare paint decorated, hand dovetailed, Bible box was made in Pennsylvania in the late 18th century. Constructed of pine with wrought iron strap hinges, it measures 18.25″ long, 13″ deep, and 6.5 tall. The salmon and red feather-grained paint is both colorful and well executed. The visible nails on the bottom appear to be hand wrought T-head shaped nails. Overall, the condition is very good for its age and use. There are two shrinkage separations on the lid due to drying over a 200 year period, and an old 2.5 triangular break-out caused by a trim nail (see photos). The paint has appropriate wear patterns but is especially colorful on the front. There is a 1 loss to the applied lower right base molding. The wrought iron strap hinges are excellent.
