It’s about 12.25 high and weighs about 4.5 lbs. Large off-white firkin at the bottom of the stack. This firkin is huge and is the largest of the three and has a. EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART PRIMITIVE WOOD DRY GREY GRAY CABINET CUPBOARD CRACKLE PAINT. Up for sale is this wonderful old primitive cabinet or cupboard. It’s a nice sized four door cabinet with shelves inside! There are two doors on top and two doors on the bottom. The bottom is a little deeper than the top and so there’s a little ledge / stepback part between the top and the bottom. The top doors slide against the little stepback part some and need to be lifted a little when opening them. The bottom doors work nicely. It’s a wonderful dry wood, grey in color with crackled, crazed and worn paint. Underneath is a wood color, possibly red color. Over time, the sides have worn near the bottom and so the cabinet tends to lean forward slightly. We’ve put shims under the front of the cabinet to keep it from leaning forward. The paint appears to be all original and is dry, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn and patina-ed! The wood is all bead board on the front doors and the sides. Inside the bottom shelf comes out if you want to take it out. The inside looks all original with great patina! The back is all original made of old wood boards with four metal repairs to cover holes and on the corner. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look!! The doors have the original iron and porcelain slid latches as you can see in the pictures. There’s also a wood latch near the bottom on the front. Underneath the cabinet has wood boards with a few mouse holes in it. The hinges are heavy duty pin hinges. We don’t know the age or origin of this cabinet but we do know that it’s adorable! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! The cabinet measures 71″ H in the back and 72″ H in the front with 36.5″ H to the stepback part x 50.25″ W x 19″ D at the bottom x 13″ D at the top. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. A wonderful piece of folk art! This is a child’s carousel ride carved wooden Bull. He is in park paint (park paint is applied to amusement park rides during the off season when the original paint is worn, it is not as refined as the original paint). The paint and surface have a wonderful worn age and the ride has some early repairs so he was on the ride for a long time. We have mounted the bull on an iron folk art stand for display, stand is included. This is a from an animal menagerie ride, possibly a traveling ride which would be taken from place to place. Found in Mexico City this ride was more than likely carved in Mexico as were many of the child’s rides. We put it’s age at early 20th century or older. The bull is 28″ long x 13″ tall x 6 wide. You can see this piece in person at Columbia Rivertowne Antiques, Columbia, PA. Like us on face book: Finish Line Collectibles. For your consideration is this fine pair of early American folk portraits. They are in gold wood frames that measure 33 1/2 x 27 1/2 overall with the framed image measuring just over 30×24. These are original oil on canvas portraits of a lady and a gentleman that have been laid down on Masonite panel. These have been in the same family since the 1950’s when they were found in a barn in Girard, in Macoupin County, Illinois. No one is completely certain, but it is believed the restoration and conservation seen today was completed at that time. The frames and Masonite panels would match that time period. These were obviously done by one of the more proficient folk artists of the time period. It would appear these would date nearer the end of the run for the heyday of folk portraiture, say after 1830. And like most from that timeframe, appear to be unsigned. The sitters are unknown as well but advances in scholarly attribution continue to put more names with faces everyday. The images contain many pieces to the puzzle with additions like chair arms, her book and his cane all potentially helping with the case for attribution. Not to mention wardrobe, facial details and artistic technique. They certainly are the caliber of and share some similarities to the work of well known painter Ammi Phillips. That being said, they are being offered here with the sitters as well as the artist being unknown. No one is certain when, where or by whom the conservation work was completed. In the right light an area of restoration shows on the gentleman’s right shoulder. Otherwise one can assume there may have been typical amounts of random in painting associated with art from this time period. They have not been examined by a professional conservator at this point nor have they been offered for sale in the last 65 years or so. This listing and price is for both portraits. We realize these represent a significant investment and can contain many variables. We pledge our complete cooperation with any seriously interested party, including additional photos, further questions, etc. Please study the photos and ask any questions you may have. Needless to say these are estate fresh so help yourself. The item “Fine Matched Pair Lady & Gentleman Early American Folk Art Portrait Paintings” is in sale since Sunday, October 01, 2017. Antique Mexican Retablo or Icon Folk Painting on Tin Saint Rita St. Of Mothers
Beautiful, moving, antique Mexican retablo, icon, or folk painting of Santa Rita de Cascia (Saint Rita of Cascia), an Italian Saint who lived in the 15th Century. Evidently, Saint Rita endured a difficult marriage that had been pressed upon her at an early age, as well as the murder of her husband in a vendetta, and the subsequent death of her two sons (who are pictured with her in the painting). She later became a nun and had mystical experiences including one in which it is said she was wounded by a thorn from Jesus Christ’s crown. According to Regis University Library, Santo Collection: Female Saints, she is a patron saint of girls in need of husbands, of marriage, of mothers, of those in bad marriages, of all who must bear suffering; for the impossible; against sickness. ” When she was canonized, she was given the title “Patroness of Impossible Causes. The painting measures about 10 inches by 14 inches. The frame measures about 12.75 inches by 16.875 inches. The condition is as shown. There are creases and dents in the metal, tiny missing areas of paint throughout, and nail holes at the top. I think the overall condition lends character to this piece. Although this is a primitive folk painting, the figures are extremely well-executed. In particular, please note the faces and hands of the figures. The overall scene is apparently typical of images of Santa Rita. According to the source quoted above, she is often depicted Wearing a nun’s habit, holding a cross and a skull occasionally with a wound on her forehead or the full stigmata. This painting includes the nun’s habit, the skull, a crucifix, a wound to her forehead, and her two sons or their spirits. Provenance: Liros Gallery, Alexandria, Virginia; a Washington, D. Private collector; and the present owners by inheritance from the collector. Thanks for your interest.
