I can see you from the back that the painting was done on a piece of some sort of wood. I do know that it’s very old. I spend a lot of time researching this painting trying to find out anything about the Artist or who is depicted in the painting itself, but unfortunately to no avail. What it looks to me is like it could possibly be a painting of a previous US president.. The painting itself is in near excellent condition, the frame does have few scratches and dings on it. The Honourable Eustace Vasey c1760. A quality painting- one of a number of pieces that were recently found in the garage of a large house on the outskirts of Brighton. Some are in better condition than others so please read the condition report carefully. An interesting old oil painting of a gentleman named as The Honourable Eustace Vasey. Size- 17.5 by 14.25 inches approx (445 x 360 mm). Medium- Oils on metal panel. Condition- We would be happy to hang this one as found. There is however a little rubbing and some thin paint in places. Some varnish browning and light craqueleur visible, ragged edges to the panel. Small paint chip top left, some further ones to the surround. This is an antique folk art painting of a handsome gentleman wearing a gold Masonic pin on his shirt. Horace Bunday (1814-83) is a well listed artist, best known for his portraits of prominent Americans, whose paintings regularly sell for thousands of dollars. Signed and dated on reverse “H Bundy / Painter / 55″, and stamped “RL & G DRAKE / ARTISTS DEPOT / TROY NY”. The portrait is encircled in a faux oval inner frame. The painting measures approximately 30″ x 25″. Condition: Very good overall condition, scattered minor losses along the edges, several light scratches to upper left (please see photos) and scattered areas of inpainting to clothing and background. Antique AMERICAN FOLK ART Handsome Gentleman Large Oil Portrait PAINTING c1850s

The entire piece measures 32 1/2 x 39 in. Canvas only measures 27 1/4 x 33 1/4 in. It appears to be signed with the initial J at the bottom right. The painting is in good as is vintage condition with a old professional repair at the center , only seen from the reverse. It also has mild in-painting and crazing/craquelure throughout the piece. The painting itself appears to be 1840-50s item period and the frame is probably 1920-30s. Please notice the faint outline of a steamboat at the side right middle, the man posing with his hand on a few books. Signifying he was a learned man. The honest , simple manner in which he was painted displays a delightful example of Americana folk art. Please enlarge all pictures to judge condition to your own standards.
