Vintage 1966 Joan Kearns’LINCOLN PARK ZOO’ Chicago FOLK ART Naive Oil Painting

This is just a great original piece. I acquired a small collection of paintings by Joan Kearns. Ms Kearns was not a listed artist but rather a part time artist. I have found her obituary and it reads, Joan was a graduate, and former Board member, of Francis W. Parker, Bennington College and the Harvard Business School. Joan was the owner/CEO of a major Consulting firm, an active member of the Harvard Club, the Art Institute of Chicago and an avid supporter of the Lincoln Park Zoo. I think this makes sense as to why 2 of her paintings are wonderful landmarks of Chicago including the Lincoln Park Zoo, and a view of the city from Clark Street. This is really a wonderful painting. Done in a classic mid 20th Century style of folk art. A wonderful large oil on canvas measuring 24 x 34 inches. Signed and dated lower right. An outstanding image of the entrance to the zoo on a beautiful summer day with hundreds of people among the grounds. The wonderful Landmark Cafe pavillion stands right center with the red roofs. Really just a wonderful painting. It is in perfect as painted condition as it seems as though it has been in a frame with glass since it was painted. Actually, the back of the frame has an original Newcomb Macklin frame sticker. Just a wonderful presentation of this outstanding mid century folk art painting. Frame measures 25 1/2 x 35 1/4 inches. Antique Carved Painted Child’s Bull Carousel Ride Folk Art Amusement Park

A wonderful piece of folk art! This is a child’s carousel ride carved wooden Bull. He is in park paint (park paint is applied to amusement park rides during the off season when the original paint is worn, it is not as refined as the original paint). The paint and surface have a wonderful worn age and the ride has some early repairs so he was on the ride for a long time. We have mounted the bull on an iron folk art stand for display, stand is included. This is a from an animal menagerie ride, possibly a traveling ride which would be taken from place to place. Found in Mexico City this ride was more than likely carved in Mexico as were many of the child’s rides. We put it’s age at early 20th century or older. The bull is 28″ long x 13″ tall x 6 wide. This is a fabulous example of an early carousel horse with the saddle and tail intact! We do not believe the pole is original to the piece. Horse is 49″ long and 36″ from the base to the saddle. Pole including the base is 76.5 high. Horse is in very good condition but does show some wear to the paint. Please see photos for details. Vintage Two Sided Metal Tilt-A-Whirl Carnival Sign Circa 1950’s An original double sided Tilt-A-Whirl carnival sign from the 1950’s. Hand painted on metal, this sign shows the wear and tear from years of use traveling the carnivals and fairs of 60 years ago. I have another sign listed from this same traveling carnival. Sellner, a woodworker and maker of water slides, invented the Tilt-A-Whirl in 1926, at his Faribault, Minnesota, home. Over the next year, the first 14 Tilt-A-Whirls were built in Herbert’s basement and yard. In 1927, Sellner Manufacturing opened its factory in Faribault, and the ride debuted that year at the Minnesota State Fair. Satisfaction guaranteed, original and as represented.
