This diminutive painting is so fun. The frame measures approximately 11 1/2″ x 9 1/2″. The site size of painting is 9 1/4″ x 7 1/4″. This is an oil painting on metal. There are a couple of. Tiny blemishes, but the painting is in nice and stable condition. I’m thinking this dates to about 1880. I believe the photographs give an accurate read.

Has recaptured his own life experiences growing up in the rural eastern shore of Maryland in the 1930’s and 1940’s as a young migrant laborer. Born in a labor camp in 1932, self-taught artist Alphonso Willums painted his experiences growing up in the 1930’s and 1940s. Willums’ art is owned and exhibited by the Maryland Historical Society, Universities, and Restaurants, but it was largely a cathartic activity he was reluctant to commercialize. Artist signed original oil painting on 12″ x 16″ canvas wrapped panel, canvas size fits ready-made frames – no need for custom framing.

Here is a painting of a mother and daughter seated with books in front of the type of setting most popular around 1815 or so. An architectural column and flowing red drapery are the backdrop of this setting, with the two subjects seated at a table. This painting has a good deal of cracquelure and age showing, there are some losses as well. A while ago I had it cleaned and re-varnished to secure everything to the canvas. Canvas size is 17″ x 13″.

ORIGINAL 1991 ANNA IGO’SCHOOL DAYS’ OIL PAINTING. This is just a great original piece. When I fist saw this work, I thought it might be the work of Cate, but it turned out it is the work of another New England 20th Century Folk Artist, Anna Igo. Cant really find much but when her works do come to market, they seem to be quite in demand. This is one of the best I can find. Oil or acrylic on wood panel that measures 18 x 16 inches. Signed and dated lower right corner. Outstanding as painted condition. The artist painted the red border to look like a frame. It shows a little scuffing in the right side but nothing too bad. Really a stunning work that could be considered one of the artist’s masterpieces. On the back of the wood is the artist’s title painted at the top. CHECK THE PICTURES ON THIS GREAT PIECE.
