ORIGINAL BLUE PAINT RARE ANTIQUE FOLK ART AAFA WOOD SPOON RACK HOLDER SQUARE NAILS, LARGE SIZE! Up for sale is this wonderful old spoon rack. It’s so rare to see a large one, and even. 25.75 L x 24.5 H x 7.75 D. It’s a nice blue and it’s worn and crackled in all the right ways. At the top shelf there is a place for a mortar and pestle. On that shelf there are spoon holder locations for 12 spoons. Then there’s another shelf and on that shelf there are another 12 spoon locations on the edge and 22 slots in the shelf for more spoons. Below that there is a wood bar that goes across the back. All in all it will hold 46 spoons. The paint is worn and faded and has some green undertones on one side. Underneath looks really old and aged as do the nails, of which some are square and some are round but all of them are rusty. The square nails are mostly on the front in the spoon holder areas. It has have some fading, crackling paint, edgewear, paint loss. On the back there are two newer brackets for which to hang it by. ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE AAFA FOLK ART WALL SHELF RACK ORIGINAL BLUE PAINT SCALLOPED. The cabinet measures: 17 W x 26 H x 8 D. Up for sale is this wonderfully folky wall shelf. It’s a wonderful Primitive blue color. It appears to be all original paint. We don’t know the age of this little shelf. The paint is patina-ed, worn, aged, edge worn and dry, rusty, scuffed and marked. It has wood undertones and iron markings as you can see in the pictures. There are a couple of holes in the back where the cabinet was hung on the wall. There are nails throughout the cabinet and they are old and rusty and most of them are small and appear round. From the nail holes there are dark rust stains and rusty colored runs. There are nicks, dings, edge wear, and chips but nothing you wouldn’t expect. It’s so cute! An antique wall-hanging game, fowl, or herb drying rack. Handmade and hand painted milled wood with a carved crown and five original embedded wrought iron hooks. The dealer we bought it from said it was probably late 1800s. We have seen closely similar racks identified as Pennsylvania Dutch and this rack shows a style of tulip painting that has much in common with known Pennsylvania museum pieces like the example in Henry Kauffman’s book Pennsylvania Dutch American Folk Art (see photos). We are not experts: please use your experience to evaluate; questions and comments are welcome. The rack has an interesting free-flowing floral painted decoration in blue, orange, teal green, white, and yellow. The design blends nicely with Norwegian rosemaled folk art; we used it to hang hand knit Norwegian mittens, Scandinavian acanthus carved meerschaum pipes, and wood chain wedding spoons from Norway. Condition is as pictured, structurally sound. Note a wood knot or an old filled hole between the far left 2nd and 3rd hook. Measures 36 inches long, 5. Inches high, and 2. Some who have seen it think it may have been cut down from a longer original. The upper molding may have doubled as a plate rail. DUE TO THE FACT THAT CAMERAS AND COMPUTERS HAVE COLOR VARIATIONS, WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DIFFERENCES IN PICTURES VERSUS ACTUAL COLOR. WE TRY TO DESCRIBE THE ACTUAL COLORS TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY. Bearing its original red and blue paint, together with Pennsylvania German floral decorations. Appears to be poplar wood. Bears two painted names, one on each side. I can only discern one last name being HUNTZ. I can not read the name on the other side rail. Both names bear the date of 1921 underneath, presumed to be a wedding or dowry rack. One full width drawer in folk art paint in red, and one small drawer underneath, this drawer in soldier blue and red paint. Later hang up hooks on back. The paint is DRY and WORN and shows the great patina and oxidation we all look for. This condition of the paint may be a little rough for some, but others will accept the natural wear. Displays beautifully, and is a nice medium size without being overbearing. Tall to bottom drawer. As described above, and as shown in the photos. No reproduction without prior written consent.
