A Charming Folk Art Painting of a Brother and Sister Playing with Blocks
A charming folk art painting of a brother and sister playing with blocks. A beautiful and adorable painting with all the details you want to see in this genre. These two childrens names are “John and Mary”. Apparently sitting on the floor playing with their blocks. Behind them is an open window complete with flowers and a lake. Notice the lovely clothing both are wearing. She is leaning on her brother and both have an adorable look to their faces. You couldn’t ask for a more pleasing portrait with children. This work was done by “Louise Lecka”, a self taught artist whose career actually was a school teacher. She spent most of her life in Currituck County, N. This painting was most likely done in the 1950’s, as this was her most prolific time of painting. It measures 31″ wide, and 25″ high. A great gift for that wonderful grandchild! This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. The seller is “passionforquality” and is located in this country: US. This is a rare pair of Folkart Portraits of a Brother and Sister, oil on canvas, unsigned but in the style of Joseph Goodhue Chandler. Each painting measures 10 3/4X9 1/4 inches and came in a pair of 19th century gilt frames. The overall frame size is 13 1/2X12 inches. There are a few minor spots of repair and retouch on the edges of the girls portrait. Both works could use a cleaning but they are quite presentable as they now appear. It is very rare to find matching folk art portraits. Guaranteed to be of the early 19. Century and not later repros. H that has been dealing in fine prints and paintings for over 25 years. Each is housed in an early 20th C custom frame with subtle difference in the measurements of each: For John, 26 1/2″ x 24 3/8″ (sight: 20 1/4″ x 18 1/4″) and for Elanor, 27 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ (sight: 21 1/2″ x 18 1/2″). Each frame is tagged so as to identify the sitter (see my 11th picture). My last picture shows the grave headstones for Elanor and John at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Cemetery, Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland. Insofar as condition is concerned, overall excellent. The only discernible repair is a small touchup to Elanor’s cheek, which can be detected in my 6th picture… Beyond this my pictures tell the rest of the story of this classic pair of Federal era American school portraits.
