Antique 18th century carved wood (very possibly mahogany) Santos figure, approximately 11-3/4 tall. Besides typical wear and damage from age, other notable damage is left-hand tip of thumb is chipped, and the right hand has seen damage and repair. The two raised fingers have broken off and been reattached, and the thumb has broken off and been lost to history (those are very delicate areas of the figure). Hands are separate pieces and both come out of the arms (may need a couple drops of glue to permanently attach). Antique Carved Wood Saint Statue 18th c. Santo Early Paint Mexican Folk Art

This baroque or rococo style figure of the late 1700s measures 13 3/8 tall on his 4 x 6 x 6 ½ pedestal and depicts a male saint holding a basket of food and raising his hand in blessing. The surface is very old (early to middle 1800s) and appears to be untouched with elaborate gilt damascene designs on the saints robe. The paint on his hand and face is chipped. Antique Mexican Folk Art Nicho Painted Wood and Glass

From the Central Highlands of Mexico here is an especially nice OLD nicho. The wooden case, painted a mellow, warm red, is trimmed in faded silver paint. Old wallpaper lines the insides of the doors. The face of Jesus is pleasant and detailed. His clothing includes gold trim and a chain. He is surrounded by foil and tissue paper flowers. The antique nicho is worn just right with the patina of an old and well-used piece of spiritual focus. (It is very difficult to exactly date these pieces). There are the expected dust streaks inside the glass, and the antique wall paper is tattered on one side. Please look carefully at the details in the photos. It is difficult to photograph the figure through the glass.. The piece is 12 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is from our personal collection, acquired while living and collecting in Mexico.
