From the Central Highlands of Mexico here is an especially nice OLD nicho. The wooden case, painted a mellow, warm red, is trimmed in faded silver paint. Old wallpaper lines the insides of the doors. The face of Jesus is pleasant and detailed. His clothing includes gold trim and a chain. He is surrounded by foil and tissue paper flowers. The antique nicho is worn just right with the patina of an old and well-used piece of spiritual focus. (It is very difficult to exactly date these pieces). There are the expected dust streaks inside the glass, and the antique wall paper is tattered on one side. Please look carefully at the details in the photos. It is difficult to photograph the figure through the glass.. The piece is 12 1/2 inches tall and 6 inches wide. It is from our personal collection, acquired while living and collecting in Mexico.
