Signed Folk art CANE With natural bitterroot vine snake Painted Putnam valley
Here is an unusual folk art walking stick. This is a signed piece made by the late Volker Martin, former member of the Putnam Valley folk artists assoc. He would search the forests to find branches with bitter root vines growing around them. He would cut them off and decorate them with paint and some modeling to the eyes. The workmanship in this is incredible he really had a feel for his materials. One of his canes is owned by General Colin Powell, also one is in the collection of Prince Charles. Sadly Volker passed away 5 years ago. He did not make many pieces, this is a one of a kind. It is signed on the bottom as shown in photo. The piece measures 45″ n length, the snake is 1 1/2″ in diameter and the branch is about 2 in diameter. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. For sale is a superb original folk art painting on metal by the well regarded and highly collected Georgia Folk Art Outsider Artist, W D Harden. Provenance: Slotin Folk Art; Buford Georgia. Each one with wonderful detail and bright vivid coloration against a red background. Titled SNAKE DANCE lower left. Signed and dated 98 (1998) lower right. Painted on a found piece of corrugated metal roofing. With as expected dings and dents. No hanging hardware attached. Measurements: 24 1/8 x 26 3/4. Born and raised in Georgia, W. Became aware of and fascinated by folk/outsider art as a genre. Amazed by the work he witnessed it gave him the inspiration and courage to try his own hand creating his unique style of work! Has been successful as an Outsider/Self Taught artist ever since! Miller was a major influence in W. S work and later became a wonderful friend & mentor. Other early influences include: Tubby Brown, Rev. Bill Traylor, Jim Sudduth and many other great Southern Outsiders. The beautiful Gypsy Moon Child, New Mexico High Desert artist/musician extraordinaire, J. Sipe, Georgia Boys: Eric Legge & Jon Whiddon. In developing his signature character, and his new spin off characters with his artistic cosmology. The HellHound has become his most well known signature character, however over the years, W. Has diversified so much from his early years and is now found creating Flyin’ HellHounds, Helligators, abstract Totems, and often color’ific surprise abstract subjects such as musical, religious & political satire, that just jump out! Ghana Movie poster African cinema folk wall art hand painted Snake Island. SNAKE ISLAND Beautiful authentic hand-painted movie poster from Ghana, West Africa. DETAILS FOR THIS FILM AND POSTER: Film: SNAKE ISLAND HORROR Poster: Hand Painted in Ghana by H. K MATHIELS for ROYAL Video Club. Art size: 52″ x 41 3/4″ (132 cm x 106 cm). Condition: In very good condition, in some places the paint is off and some signs of wear in the art work due to usage. This is not a print! Its a real oil paint! A real piece of Authentic African Art! This type of posters are highly collectible and many times displayed in Museums all over the world! With the arrival of video and video cassettes during 1980s In Ghana (West Africa) a small-scale film distribution / mobile Cinema was created. This small size mobile “Cinema” operators were equipped with a television a Video and sometimes with a small portable generator and were moving from town to town from village to village operating and showing their films! (During the day inside social clubs or houses and during the night in the open air). In order to attract more customers and in order to advertise their mission and business the need of huge posters was created and born. Talented artists after viewing the film were creating large size posters using oil paint on canvas (Because of unavailability and high cost of imported canvas , The artists were using used flour sacks sewn together). The artist had the freedom to add or change scenes seen or not seen in the film in order to make the poster more attractive (This is the reason that this hand painted posters are more interesting as ART than the normal posters since each of this hand painted poster is UNIQUE and except the film content it also express the artist himself). These posters were rolled or folded and easy to move around with the mobile Cinema. Because of the posters ” hard ” life (Folded or rolled, under the rain and sun and display for several months during their rounds all over Ghana) most of the surviving posters have damage at the end of the canvas, peelings, cracking and other damages. By the mid 1990s the mobile Cinema business declined and almost collapsed since television and video was more widely available in Ghana. The profits of the mobile Cinema operators were also reduced and they were not able to afford the “expensive” talented artists to paint their posters anymore. At the present days they have to rely with Photocopy paper posters in order to survive and reduce cost. Amazing Original Bill Traylor Folk art painting on board of a Man, Woman, Snake

Amazing Original Bill Traylor Folk art painting on board of a Man, Woman, Snake

Amazing Original Bill Traylor Folk art painting on board of a Man, Woman, Snake
The #1 place to find Rare & Unusual Art and Antiques. William “Bill” Traylor (18531949) was an African-American s. Elf-thought artist from Lowndes County, Alabama. Born into slavery, Traylor spent the majority of his life after emancipation as a sharecropper. It was only after 1939, following his move to Montgomery. Alabama that Traylor began to draw. At the age of 85, he took up a pencil and a scrap of cardboard to document his recollections and observations. From 1939 to 1942, while working on the sidewalks of Montgomery, Traylor produced nearly 1,500 pieces of art. While Traylor received his first public exhibition in 1940, it wasnt until the late 1970s, thirty years after his death, that his work finally began to receive broader attention. Recent acceptance of Traylor as a significant figure of American folk and modern art has been founded on the efforts of Charles Shannon, as well as the evolving tastes of the art world. Shannon, who first encountered Traylor’s work in 1940, brought Traylor to the attention of the larger art world. Since then, public and scholarly perception of Bill Traylor’s life and work has been in constant evolution. First held up as an example of “primitive” or “outsider” art, Traylor now holds a central position in the fields of “self-taught” and modern art. Original Bill Traylor folk art painting of a man who appears to be saving a woman from a snake attack. This is one of the nicest and most creative examples of his works that we have ever seen. It is unsigned, but the back of the frame has an old photo / image of Bill Traylor smoking a pipe and you can clearly this painting by his lower left hand side. There is also a stamped gallery label that appears to be french in origin, but there isn’t enough information to figure out who they are. Photo of Bill Traylor with this painting. Gallery label that appears to be from. We guarantee that this is an actual old period painting and that it is not a print or reproduction of any kind. Poster paint and pencil on board. The painting is mounted on board & sits within a beautiful golden wood frame. With the exception of some. / fading that might be original to the painting, we honestly think that it is in overall very good. 14.5 x 12in unframed &. 22.5 x 18.5in framed.
