Many of our offerings are. Fresh to the market from local estates in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Late 19th century folk art oil painting on wood panel depicting three children by the shore line. The children appear to be playing a game of horse riding-the older girl is carrying on her back a younger child who has lost one of her shoes. And is holding up a bunch of flowers. The boy to the left of the painting is holding the reins. The frame measures 23. Wide x 28 1/2. The painting measures 17 1/2. Condition notations: Surface grime, craquelure, toning, grime. The wood board upon which the painting is done appears to have been found material and has a raised area mid-right side edge which has some sort of fasteners, as shown last two photos. There is some minor paint loss on this area as shown. Period frame with appliqué cartouche corner spandrels. The frame retains it. S original gilt surfaces; there is minor wear and narrow finish loss as shown mid- left side. 19thC Antique Mourning Folk Art, Sarah Bennett, Memorial Watercolor Painting

Framed under early glass, with its original wood backboard, this is a rare American Victorian era? Folk art memorial painting. It comes in its 12 x 16 wooden frame. It depicts a woman in distress over the death of Sarah Bennett. In the backround are weeping willow trees, as well as other mourners in the cemetery along with a cathedral in the back round. The white marble memorial is marked To The Memory of Sarah Bennett who died April 12-1837 aged 39. We did some research on the internet and found that Sarah Bennett (married to John Bennett) was born to John and Bethiah Clark on June 27, 1798. Sarah is buried in North Rochester Cemetery in Rochester Ma. There are foxing stains on the picture, and the backboard also shows a large foxing? There are old nails holding the backboard in place. The frame size is 12 X 16 and the print size is 9X 13. It looks like it is a watercolor, but this is speculation as I do not know anything about art. Antique 19thC NEW ENGLAND PANTRY BOX CELERY-GREEN PAINT AAFA Folk Art Primitive. Hands down one of the best pantry boxes I’ve handled as far as surface and form go (and size to boot). It’s approx 8″W across the top (by) 5.75″H. Chunky, thick, swamped with patina. Long, slender fingers of opposing arrangement snug to the body with symetrically placed iron nails. Body with straight, nailed seam. Flared and chamfered handle, carved mushroom pegs. Top and bottom boards are nailed not pegged. The handle sat against the box for a very, very long time undisturbed, when lifted you can see more of a yellowish color under it possibly the original color (see last pic).
