A beautiful late 19th century handmade rocking horse. Painted gray with leather saddle seat. Ears and strap around nose are also leather. The eyes are made from what appears to be cast iron buttons, which can also be found accented the seat. The horse is mounted to a wooden base. Apx 1940s Nearly 2 ft long.. Apx 23″x14″x7 , weighs apx 8 lbs , very solid.. I believe this was a collectors rocker for antique dolls. An amazing conversation piece!!!! We have just enjoyed up on a tall cabinet counter in our game room.. Has a lot of aging/ historical wear showing but nothing major.. All hand carved and painted I was told.. Was told this originally came from a circus toy collector, they owned several pieces for at least 10-20 yrs before offered. This was old when they obtained.. And I’m not sure how to tell.. There is some chipping and peeling in different places as you can see from the pictures and is been like that for as long as we’ve had it.. It feels like wood and it sounds like wood but please use the pictures for your own judgment. The head was a separate piece.. Antique 1820s NE Folk Art Miniature Painted Wooden Windsor Rocking Chair aafa

A Windsor chair is a chair built with a solid wooden seat into which the chair-back and legs are round-tenoned, or pushed into drilled holes, in contrast to standard chairs, where the back legs and the uprights of the back are continuous. The seats of Windsor chairs were often carved into shallow dish or saddle shape for comfort. We are pleased to offer this Antique Miniature Painted Decorated Handmade Wooden Windsor Spindle Rocking Chair from New England, circa 1820 to 1840. The Antique Miniature Rocking Chair was decorated by the Best New England traditional red paint with a band of gold that adorns the wooden seat front. The painted surface has an alligator finish as seen on the spindles (see photos). The Windsor Rocking Chair is a perfect darling miniature size and can sit table top being 14 1/2 inches in height and is 8 inches at the widest. The Antique Windsor Miniature Rocking Chair has a classic spindle shape with the rockers and spindles being strong and sturdy. There is an old strong repair on the shaped wooden seat that adds character and authenticity to the early rocker. A closer look will reveal a few soft puppy bite indentions on one of the antique rockers. These all are beautiful characteristics of use and age and does not diminish the beauty of this early miniature that is well over 150 years. The Antique Windsor Miniature Rocking Chair is in strong and sturdy condition with age appropriate wear and patina. They just do not get any more endearing than this classic New England Miniature. 18 1/2 Inches High, 13 Inches Wide, and 13 Inches Deep.
