Since 1982, Bryans Gallery has represented exceptional artistry of the Southwest and the Eight Northern Pueblos. We have estate and contemporary. Paintings, sculpture, pottery, Zuni fetishes, rugs and baskets. Some of the finest rare examples of Southwestern American Indian arts and craft can be found in our gallery, a brick and mortar building in Taos, New Mexico. Our staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Hopi Folk Art Mask by Gregory Lomayesva: hand-carved, hand-painted wood with feathers, hangs on a wall or sits on a flat surface. X 23 1/4 x 5 1/2. Gregory Lomayesva’s career began the old fashioned way with an idea and a pile of moxie. Dropping out of high school at the age of seventeen to pursue his art full-time, he landed his first job as a gallery assistant at one of Santa Fe’s prestigious showrooms. His cultural background now came into play. Of Hispanic ancestry on his mother’s side and Native American -Hopi- on his father’s side, Lomayesva began to reflect on his heritage and how it encircled him His introspection is evident in this fusion art. His woodworking pieces are bright and inventive and are a reflection of his own personal identification with and interpretation of his culture. The use of a particular image in a composition is a visual representation of a different feeling I’m having. It’s like emotional shorthand, says Gregory. He combines his love of historical western art themes and contemporary Indian art. Gregory has produced two albums of electronic pop music on his label Drip Records. He has also produced several short films. His invitation to exhibit in thirty countries, and repeat showings at the Smithsonian American Indian Museum and the Heard Museum make this artist worth watching. 2009 “Fusion” at Bryans Gallery, Taos, NM. 2009 National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian, Washington, D. 2009 Heard Museum, Phoenix, AZ. 2008 “Muse” at Gerbert Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA. 2008 “Bounce” at Ursa Gallery, Santa Fe, NM. 2006 “More Indian” at Winterrowd Fine Art, Santa Fe, NM. 2006 ” The Art of War” at Art & Industry, Santa Fe, NM. 2005 ” You Can Breathe Now” at J. Rare antique Romani gypsy wagon window door hand-painted 18/1900's folk art lot
This is an antique primitive hand painted set of 3 windows out of a 1800/ early 1900’s era Romani gypsy wagon. All original metal hardware latches all windows open and work perfectly. Each window roughly measures 16.5″ x 19″ each is unique and different being hand crafted. The painted colors on these windows are still vibrant and bright the detail is amazing. They are not chipped or banged up. I have them hanging above my fireplace in my living room. From a smoke-free home. The last picture of the Romani wagon is just to give you an idea of what they came off of and It is not the actual wagon. Please let me know if you need any more pictures on something specific. These would make a very cute cat door in a window or decor just sitting on back of a buffet cabinet. Price is for all three I will not split up the set sorry. Rare Antique Folk Art Hand-Painted Large Stoneware Crock, Man and Woman
Rare Antique Folk Art Hand-Painted Large Stoneware Crock, Man and Woman. Fresh from a New England estate. Handpainted folk art of a man and woman standing. Old paint work with some flaking and touch ups. Look fantastic and old. The original crock glaze is showing through in some areas. There are a few minor chips around the rim/mouth. Please review the photos as I tried to capture it from all angles. Inside looks to be lead glazed (dark brown). Bottom shows marks where the potter cut the piece off the wheel with a loop of wire after it was formed. Imprinted with 2 on the back neck. No other makers marks. No structural issues or cracks. Measures nearly 12 tall. Base is 8 1/2 across. Mouth is 6 across (edge to edge). Please send me a message to start the return process. I respond to messages very quickly.
