A charming pair of 19c portraits painted in watercolor and housed within period rosewood frames. The sitters are Mr. Members of White Hall Place (Royal Geographical Society) in London and pencil dated on verso 1837. Each frame measures 12.50″ x 10.25″ , the watercolor measuring approx. The condition is good considering age with some fading/toning noted on the interior paper. Surface wear to the frame and the inner gilt fillet. All tolled a handsome pair of decorative portraits. Original Primitive Folk Art Painting Wood Panels English Fox Hunt Village Scene

These are lovely original wood panels painted and signed and dated 2003 on the back. The detail in these half moon shaped panels is incredible! Panel measure 29 inches long at the widest and 11 inches tall at it tallest. Solid wood panels 3/4 inch thick with routed edge and painted black on the back and edges. I had this hanging on the wall together for years. They can be hung over a doorway or double doorway. Painted in a folk art primitive deocrative style with amazing detail in the village scene. The colors are wonderful! One panel depicting an English countryside fox hunt, the other depicting a English/Early American village. These panels are the same size, they look different in the first photo only. Of the angle of the camera. I use oversize boxes, some items are double boxed, lots of peanuts, bubble wrap and packing paper. Boxes are packed solid to help prevent crushed boxes. Georgian Painted Silhouette Folk Art Oval Fruitwood Frame English Circa 1810

This original 19th century painted silhouette has a great charm to it. Its original oval frame, detailed bronzed profile and gentle antique colouring allow it to become a firm favourite that will blend with ease in to an existing silhouette or folk art grouping. Although unsigned we can date this silhouette to the 1790 to 1810 period by the fashion and in particular the cap that this older lady is wearing. This style of lace/ organdy cap was popular from the 1750’s until the end of the century. It has a very ornate double width pleated frill divided by a central ribboned band that secures at the nape of the neck. The puffed crown of this cap is made of fine sprigged lace netting or fine grade muslin. This type of cap was often referred to as a Dormeuse Cap. This older lady wears a small frill around her neck with draped handkerchief tucked in to her waistline. When examined under magnification you can see that our example is painted in black textured paint upon a plain paper. We have not examined this silhouette outside of the frame and so at this stage cannot tell if the paper is laid or wove. The old paper is clearly unbleached which you can tell from the gentle darkening with age. The female sitter has a vast amount of detail lavished up on her by the use of bronzing (the addition of gold highlights). This gilt embellishment really brings the sitter to life as light, shadow and intricate folds and pleats are all apparent on her headwear and clothing. Housed within a contemporary oval fruitwood frame with its original top hanger. Frame Size: 4 7/8″ (12.5 cm) by 4 2/8″ (11 cm). Visible silhouette 3.25″ (8.5 cm) by 2.75″ (7 cm). Condition: Good but not perfect. The paper ground has two historic watermarks, one feint one at 6 o’clock and a smaller but darker one at 4 o’clock. The original oval frame has an old and good repair at 12 o’clock -so, so common with oval frames. There is wear to the top outer edge where we suspect that a few old nibbles to the frame edge have been sanded smooth. The glass has probably been replaced at some point as the backing paper is not the original. This is a delightful George III era profile just waiting to become part of a new family grouping. Authentic Early 20thC ENGLISH PUB SIGN Sand Painted Folk Art BENSKINS COW ROAST. From an extensive collection upstate, NY. Fantastic original early 20thC English Pub Sign, possibly from the Cow Roast Inn. Painted for Benskins Beer as well. Wonderful hand painted graphic of a hand turning a spit with a cow roasting over an open fire. Is sand painted / has a sand texture similar to other of that era. Solid cast iron frame with several layers of paint. I have no idea how this got to upstate, NY. Quite a fascinating piece. Sign (framed) measures approximately. 30.25″ by 37 7/8″. The loops for hanging at top extend another 1.75. As you can see, the sign has a split in the board and some significant loss to one side. Paint wear commensurate with age.
