AAFA FOLK ART ANTIQUE EARLY 1800s ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED BLUE WOOD WALL CABINET WITH WOOD DOWELS. Up for sale is this unbelievably amazing single door cabinet. It’s a wall cabinet and is all hand painted with reddish trim and tremendous patina. It’s dated 18xx something. We can’t read the other two numbers but at the top of the door it says “18”. At the bottom we can’t read the other numbers. There are also some intials on the door, and those appear to be AJL or FJL but they are very hard to read. The door has a crack in it but hey, at this age, what did you expect? ! Underneath the door there’s a little drawer. It is a very heavy cabinet and weighs 60 lbs!! It’s heavy duty old school wood. The wood is 7/8 thick! It’s also dovetailed at the top. Along the front, there are wood dowels along the trim and you can see them in the pictures. On the front it has old hardware including rusty old iron pin-type hinges, a rusty escutcheon around the key hole (we don’t have the key) and an old rusty nail that operates as a hold closed. Inside there’s a little shelf in the middle and a cup hook shelf above. The trim is very pronounced on this cabinet including the crown molding around the top of the cabinet. The crown appears to be about 1/4 above the paint line on the cabinet. There’s also a trim around the middle of the cabinet and one at the bottom of the cabinet. At the top, the trim is cracked as you can see in the pictures. This looks like and old break to us. At the bottom there’s been a little damage to the trim on the front and both sides as the trim is light and the cabinet is heavy. The paint appears to be all original and is dry, faded, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, nicked, edge worn, alligator-ed and patina-ed! This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look!! You will never see another one of these again! It’s truly one of a kind OOAK! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close up ones. It’s a great old cabinet / cupboard!! 33 inches high to the top and 29.25 inches high to the main cabinet. 22.25 inches wide at the trim and 19.75 inches wide at cabinet. 13.25 deep at trim and. 12.25 deep at cabinet. Rawer is 14.5 inches wide and 4.75 inches high. Oor is 14.5 inches wide and 16 inches high. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. We are back and will be regularly putting up new items so check out our other items. We will do our best to answer your questions. We will handle them on a case-by-case basis. We will do the same. 19th c. Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880
Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880’s A wonderful small Norwegian kiste, or dome top blanket chest with a nicely decorated decoration on the front and dome topped with a beautiful comb paint surrounding the rest of the chest. Rosemaling (rose painting) designs and lettering. A lock is present as is the key which is a giant plus. The outer edge of this box has text painted in black. The early script is defining this as Norwegian…. If I’m incorrect please let me know. The piece is painted in the traditional manner of decorated items familiar to this era and regions. It has a natural interior with wonderful heavy ironwork hinges. Ironwork and peg construction can be seen in close-up photo. The dome top is decorated with a strong design consisting. The chest is 15 by 10 by 9.5 The overall condition of the piece is quite good and again, so very attractive. It is structurally very solid and well built. The top is still tightly attached and the hinges are holding strong. One decorative interior iron looks as the tip is broken off. The painted surface is in excellent condition although the piece has an early, old re-paint over the original by the owners descendants, and shows a light coat of shellacking and as a result protected the surface through the many years. My flash doesn’t due the piece justice. This box is as nice as they get. Very hard to find and you will wait a long time before you find another this appealing and with a working lock and key. Perfect size for almost any space. Perfect for the Scandinavian decor or as a gift. Thanks for looking and as always, visit often! The item “19th c. AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART EARLY CHILDS CUPBOARD WOOD OYSTER WHITE PAINT SIGNED DATED. Up for sale is this wonderful 3 drawer child’s / doll dresser. It’s a beautiful old dresser in an oyster white. The paint is old and original, and it’s crackled and alligator-ed everywhere. The knobs are old painted wooden knobs and appear to be original to the piece. It’s a wonderful oyster white on the outside and a stunning aquamarine blue on the inside of the drawers. The blue is probably newer than the white as on the top drawer, in the back along the inside, there’s scribed in the wood. On the front, you can see that the cabinet is worn and has separated just a little where the bottoms of the drawers meet the sides of the dresser. This doesn’t detract from the look but you can see it if you look at it. The whole cabinet measures 17.25″ W x 7.75″ D x 12 H it weighs 10 lbs. The drawers are 15″ W x 6.25″ D and about 2 H each. Antique folk art oil brd painting CHICKS eating from Oyster shell dated 1895 12
For sale is this nice folky oil painting on artist board of chicks eating out of an oyster shell. The painting has great use of perspective and shadow as well as expert use of the brush. The painting is not signed , however on the back it is marked with the date FEB. 25th 1895 and initials MM which I assume are the painters. The painting is in good condition, there is a small amount of paint loss from a few scratches. The biggest one is at the top , shown in the photo. They are quite superficial. A great painting with lots of charm and character. The painting measures 11/3/4″ x 9 1/2″ with out the frame. With frame it measures 14 3/4″x 12 1/2″. The frame is a nice antique walnut one , probably original to the painting. DUE TO THE FACT THAT CAMERAS AND COMPUTERS HAVE COLOR VARIATIONS, WE ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DIFFERENCES IN PICTURES VERSUS ACTUAL COLOR. WE TRY TO DESCRIBE THE ACTUAL COLORS TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY. Bearing its original red and blue paint, together with Pennsylvania German floral decorations. Appears to be poplar wood. Bears two painted names, one on each side. I can only discern one last name being HUNTZ. I can not read the name on the other side rail. Both names bear the date of 1921 underneath, presumed to be a wedding or dowry rack. One full width drawer in folk art paint in red, and one small drawer underneath, this drawer in soldier blue and red paint. Later hang up hooks on back. The paint is DRY and WORN and shows the great patina and oxidation we all look for. This condition of the paint may be a little rough for some, but others will accept the natural wear. Displays beautifully, and is a nice medium size without being overbearing. Tall to bottom drawer. As described above, and as shown in the photos. No reproduction without prior written consent. Thank you and Enjoy! BE SURE YOU ARE SATISFIED WITH THIS ITEM AS DESCRIBED AND AS PICTURED. If the item fails to sell when the listing has ended, only then will we possibly consider an offer for the item. And again, we will NOT respond to any message received while the listing is active. Early Antique Folk Art Hand Painted Wedding Trunk Blanket Chest Dovetailed Dated
EARLY ANTIQUE FOLK ART HAND PAINTED WOOD WEDDING TRUNK BLANKET CHEST DOVETAILED DATED 1868! Up for sale is this amazing hand painted trunk, blanket chest or mule chest. It’s a beautiful large chest with tons of character and that true folk art flavor. Many trunks that were highly decorated like this were wedding trunks but who can know? It has a hinged lid as you can see in the pictures. The trunk has an wonderful, dark brown black base color with reddish-orange, and faded yellow (tannish) highlighted accents in the folk art / floral painting. It looks like the flowers are tulips to us and there are reddish accents here and there. The paint appears to be all original and has nicks, chips and scrapes on it as you’d expect from and item of this age. You can also see the painted date on the front of 1868!! The top of the trunk is just plain with the exception of one very faint flower in the center. The lid has a lot of patina, scuffs and wear from things being on it and years of use. The front board of the top is likely newer and was replaced as the side boards of the top are fatter than the front board of the top. Under the trunk the legs are square and hold the trunk up off the ground. The legs have big wooden pegs that go through the bottom of the trunk and come up on the inside. They are about 1 in diameter. The legs are nicked, dinged and worn as you’d expect. There are also a number of old worm holes in the legs. There are not that many worm holes in the bottom board of the trunk which we thought was nicely surprising! Please look closely at the pictures and you can see all of this. On the front there’s an black iron escutcheon for the lock. You can see the lock on the pictures of the inside. We do not have the key and don’t know if the lock works. We do know that there’s nothing for the lock to grab hold of on the lid so having a key may not help things if you are trying to lock things up. There probably was an iron peg / shank that would come down and fit in the lock but it’s gone. Under the lid on the left side there’s a mouse hole where a little critter gnawed a hole to get in! Inside there is a little till on the left side. This was often used for small valuables and items so they did not get lost in the big trunk. The till has a hinged wood lid. This is not common as usually these little tills get broken or lost over time. There’s another mouse hole in the till on the vertical part of the right side under the lid toward the back. The trunk’s lid is held on to the back with old hinges. We don’t think these are original and you can see where there may have been other hinges at one point. The hinges have newer screws in them but still old, just not as old as the trunk. There are mouse holes, or wear at those two old hinge locations also. Just under the lid, on the front, there are a lot of little holes. Perhaps this had an upholstered top or something at one point as they look like little tack marks all along the top of the front board under the lid. The hand painting on the front and sides is a very colorful collection of flowers and organic motifs. The trunk is wonderfully hand painted. Inside, the trunk is clean but worn. There are old worm holes in the bottom and around the inside as you’d expect from an old item like this. The sides of the trunk as are dovetailed in to the front and back. There’s also some sort of swirls on the side in a very dark color and the color of the trunk. This is very hard to see because of the color. The dovetails are also hard to see but they are the thick kind. If you look closely in the black area you can see them. The back of the trunk is clean and has scrapes and nicks. And yes, it has a little critter hole down at the bottom! Whatever was in this trunk must have been very inviting to those dang critters!! The trunk has a wonderful patina to it. The trunk has some paint wear, paint loss, edge wear, nicks, scrapes, dings, fade, wear and overall age marks. There are spots, scuffs, streaks and grain lift. You can see all of this in the pictures and it’s what you’d expect from a trunk that’s almost 150 years old!! It’s a large size and measures. 48 inches wide at the top. 44.5 inches wide at the trunk. 20 3/4 inches deep at the top. 20 inches deep at the trunk. 2 1/2 inches high at the drawer. 18 1/2 inches deep inside the trunk. 50 x 29 x 25. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a very nice trunk for those of you who love Primitives or folk art. It’s one of a kind! It would certainly make for an interesting conversation piece. Thank you for looking at this item. Let us know if you have any questions. We regularly put up new items so check out our other items.
