By the AMERICAN SCHOOL (20th Century). Signed lower left R. Very good vintage condition. Canvas size: 17in x 21in. He was educated at the University of Florida and the University of the Americas in Mexico, graduating cum laude in June 1961 with a degree in International Relations. From 1961 until 1974, his work required extensive travel in the Southeast for Gulf Oil. In 1964, Smith began painting as a hobby, experimenting with various techniques and styles. He eventually developed his distinctive realistic primitive style. In May 1974, he obtained a license to set up his easel in Jackson Square, Louisiana, where he depicted scenes of southern country life on canvas.

This folk-art painting done by Mary Reed is absolutely beautiful. A southern rural farm with the wisteria growing in the tree on a warm spring day, the chickens scratching in the yard and momma bringing in the wash. Frame measurements are 21 1/2 x 16 1/2. I’m not sure on the production time but it seems to me to have been done midcentury by the looks of the water color board on the back. Questions please ask and thanks for looking…

This is a large, beautiful piece of original art by famed folk artist Benny Carter. Carter’s work has been featured in numerous publications and has become some of the most highly sought after American folk art. This is a large framed painting signed in the lower right. The image is of a place of peace where people of all races and colors, and animals of all types, are together in unison. This is the kind of message our country needs. There are a couple of damaged spots that do not detract. It is ready to hang. This would be great in any public building, museum, bar or restaurant or in your den or office. I hope the next owner will enjoy this as much as I have! Please feel free to make offers.
