Miniature paint decorated document box featuring a black swirl pattern on a red background surrounded by green and yellow banding. The box is an authentic early box with the original wallpaper interior and maker’s label. The hasp and lock are reproduction replacements. The brass bail handle is an old replacement. 19th C Antique Indian Hand Painted Figurative Folk Art Sarangi String Instrument
MID-19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE INDIAN SARANGI HAND PAINTED FIGURATIVE FOLK ART BANJIRA STRING INSTRUMENT (ORIG BOW MISSING). Mid-19th c hand carved & hand painted antique Indian string wooden instruments. 22 ¼” Length x 6 ½” Width x 4 Depth. Mid-19th century Indian Sarangi 17 string antique Banjira instrument, with the bow now missing. One upper wooden knob to the right side was broken off. But all strings are complete and still intact. Some scuffs and some minor paint loss. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. Apart from the original bow now being separated from the main instrument and now unavailable, the instrument itself is in exceptionally well-preserved overall antique condition. It’s an extraordinary piece and has exquisite wood hand carving, as well as over-the-top, incredibly accomplished, detailed and well-realized, hand painted figuration on the front lower and upper body, as well as covering the curved lower body of the back of the instrument. An incredible early instrument with absolutely outstanding original, hand painted surfaces. It remains as it was found and in 100% original antique condition. Incredibly, all strings are still present and the wooden case doesn’t suffer from any drying, warping, noticeable dents, dings, water damage, unsightly stains, flea-bites to any of its edges, fractures, repairs or loss. The painted Indian figures, in traditional, period dress, ordain the front, as well as back of the piece. The painted surfaces are crazed and crackled with age. The wood knobs are dry. About as beautiful an object as any mere mortal could possibly ask for. A veritable gift from the gods. Jimmy Lee Sudduth WOMAN Mud Painting Folk Outsider Art
This is a stunning Jimmy Lee Sudduth mud painting, in excellent condition. Painted on wood board, the piece measures 24″x24″. It is signed on the front. Glitter in her earrings, color and the texture of the mud are vivid. Jimmy Lee Sudduth is a renowned outsider artist, especially recognized for his colorful mud paintings. Sudduth’s work is in many private collections around the world and in the permanent collection the Fayette Art Museum in Fayette, Alabama. He passed away in 2007 at the age of 97. PETI CLEMENTS African American Folk Art Painting Chickens on Canvas Signed
PETI CLEMENTS African American Folk Art Paintings; a very nice painting from Petites Peti on Canvas Signed. 8″ by 10.5″ with frame. Peti Clements lived and worked in Birmingham, AL and these were probably painted in the 1970’s to early to mid 1980’s time frame. Clement was raised on a rural Alabama farm and many of her works depict the scenes of her early everyday life. The Tennessee Valley Art Museum has a wonderful collection in their permanent collection. Clements was born on August 6, 1911 and died November 25, 19999, but her art lives on.
