AAFA ANTIQUE FOLK ART WALL APOTHECARY CABINET CUPBOARD OLD ALLIGATOR BLUE PAINT. Up for sale is this fabulous old primitive cabinet or cupboard. It’s a nice old 2-door cabinet with 6 little apothecary drawers. It has wonderful scroll work and a great patina with alligator-ed paint! We don’t know how old it is, but it looks early 1800’s to us! The cabinet has beautiful dry chippy robin’s egg blue paint. This old cabinet is a survivor. There are the two doors up above that open up to a cream color on the inside of the doors and a Victorian wall paper on the inside. There are streaks of blue where the painter on the outside was bit generous with the application and some of it bled through the cracks to the inside. The front of the cabinet has all alligatored paint with lots of crackles, roughness and patina. The two doors have a slide latch on the right on the right door and a catch on the left door. Inside the left door there’s a hook and loop to hold the left door shut. The doors have some cream color spots as well as brown wood spots showing through on the right door. The left door has a crack in it but it’s been repaired and is solid but still visible. The doors have Shaker style pin hinges as you can see in the pictures. The drawers are made from thin wood, a little like crates but no writing or labels. The drawers have porcelain knobs and they are a little grungy. And, the generous painter strikes again with drips and paint on the knobs. Under the drawers that cabinet has nice scroll work that extends down below the bottom of the cabinet. In the pictures we have it sitting on a 2×6 to support / level it for picture taking. The right side of the cabinet is the cream color and that is heavily alligatored. The left side is blue like the front but not as alligatored. The back is made board and batten style wood. There’s the thin boards and then at the seams there is a batten to hold them down and together. There are various nails in the back including small round (newer) nails and old rusty nails. The back has scrapes and chips and cracked wood here and there as you can see in the pictures. There are also some of those blue streaks from the generous painter. It’s a wonderful dry wood and is a light blue in color with old worn paint. The paint appears to be all old and the cream color appears to be original with the blue coming in later (but still old) on the front and left side. The paint has grunge. Scrapes, patina, fading, and is dry, worn, rubbed, scraped, chipped, flaked, nicked, edge-worn. There’s cream and wood colors showing through the blue depending on where you look. This is everything you’d expect to see from an old survivor cabinet like this! What a great look! We don’t know the age or origin of this cabinet but we do know that it’s special! Please see photos for accurate detail and description. The pictures are pretty good for the color, especially the close-up ones. It’s a great old cabinet/cupboard!! The cabinet measures 43″ W x 30.75″ H with the scrollwork x 12 D without the knobs. We can also recommend a couple of shippers. This is a great cabinet!
