This wonderful black-faced sheep, made of canvas or a similar fabric, is the work of Pennsylvania folk artist Kathi Stingle, who tagged it on the bottom with a gold name sticker. Beneath the sheep (between its legs), the artist has painted nighttime snow scenes showing snow-covered evergreens against rolling hills. The full moon appears on one side. The sheep, depicted with piercing brown eyes, measures approximately 8 by 7 inches and is just a couple of inches wide. It’s in good vintage condition. We see a bit of rubbing of the fabric at the nose and a couple of light hairline cracks in the finish of the snow scene painting on one side. Original framed oil painting by Kowalski on canvas of winter village theme. The artist has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner “Kowalski”. The painting measures approx. 20″ by 24″ with the frame 27 by 31. Painting is in good condition. This wood frame with linen matting is in good condition as well. Please take a good look at the photos as they constitute the remainder of our description. The artist was born in Sopron in Hungary in 1926. He was a student of the Academy of Budapest andduring the uprising in 1956 against Communism he escaped from Hungary to Vienna. He has become internationally known for his (typically East European style) “Naive” paintings depicting Village life in the four seasons in glorious colour. Children especially like his works as each one tells a story. He has exhibited in many Galleries throughout Europe, particularly in Munich, Vienna, Tokyo, and Harrods in London. Winter Rural Landscape Antique Oil Painting with Village in Background

This is a beautiful antique oil painting depicting a rural winter scene where we see a snow covered dirt road in the foreground leading to a leading to a small village seen in the background – in the foreground, we see two horses with a man on top of one of the horses holding the reins of the 2nd horse – a woman is seen walking towards the two horses to mount the 2nd horse – it appears that she has just visited somebody in the snowbound house on the left – we see the large trees in the mid-section of the painting bereft of any leaves. The unknown artist has done a very talented job in creating a winter feel to this painting from the leafless trees to the snowbound house as well as the various shades of off-white colors that he used to depict the snow on the ground to include the patches of faded red-brown to depict the bushes & grass that are without snow on them – the gray shadows on the roof of the house on the left are also quite well-done. The sky is typical of a winter day with some pale blue color & gray & off-white clouds floating through the sky. The painting measures 18″ x 24″ & is in very good antique condition – it has been professionally cleaned to remove the old varnish made brown with 125 years of grit & chimney smoke & revarnished to bring out the wonderful colors that the artist originally intended for this painting – it is greatly enhanced by its original ornate gilded wooden frame which measures 23″ x 29″ & is also in very good antique condition – note of the reverse in the corners of the wooden stretchers are cast iron braces with a patent date of 1885 – also, on the reverse of the frame is stamped “Boston Public Schools”. Original Winter Oil Painting by listed Slovenian Joze Peternelj Mausar (b1927)

Mausar is one of Slovenia’s best-known artist and has a very distinct and quite clear style. This oil painting on board is incredibly well-rendeered, showing a wandering old couple trudging through the snow to a winter village. It is signed J. Mausar at lower right. Painting is undated, and it is difficult to estimate a date, but based on the artist’s age, I would guess 1990s to early 2000s. Painting is framed in a rustic-looking wood frame. The painting is in excellent condition. The frame shows some remnants of gilding. Matting shows a couple marks. Painting measures approximately 10 inches wide x 8 inches high. Condition is good and clean on front for the age, with slight wear in some small places on edges, MODERATE bowing. Paintings is NOT warped, but is SERIOUSLY BOWED. I cannot say whether a frame shall or shall not straighten out the painting, if simply place in one. A professional framer can straighten out this painting in a frame, if you so choose. Overall size is 16 inches by 20 inches. Artist is Ann Cusick of Rhode Island. Provenance of the scene is this is Cumberland, Rhode Island. I also wrote provenance on back. Cumberland Rhode Island was settled originally as part of Rehoboth, MA. The property was eventually transferred to Rhode Island and named in honor of Prince William, Duke of Cumberland.
