Fine watercolor on paper laid down on canvas to stabilize. Original period frame over painted decorative corners 32″ by 25 1/4″. The Nicholas is in heavy seas wit the sails down except one which is damaged. High wind and rough seas great sky and colors water looks treacherous. Wonderful period frame gilt not sure if painted over or dirty. Painting under original wavy period glass painting is 27″ by 20″. Original Arthur Glazier Folk Art Reverse Glass Oil Painting British Sailing Ship

Much of Glazier’s folk art was painted on wood, so this is an unusual medium for him. The work was done in the style of an antique reverse glass painting. In the water, the artist has painted some sea creatures, including a fish, hammerhead shark, several whales, and a mermaid. I believe the piece of glass the artist used was antique, as it has some bubbles and the look of old glass. The glass is mounted in an old wooden frame that measures 25 1/2″ x 18 1/8″. The painted glass portion measures approximately 22″ x 14 1/2″. The painting is signed A. GLAZIER in the lower right corner. It’s guaranteed to be an original Arthur Glazier work of art. Arthur Glazier was originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was a Graphic Artist for the Corps of Engineers in Washington, D. Where he designed the shield logo that is still in use today. He retired to East Berlin, Pennsylvania, where he painted prolifically for 35 years. Condition of this reverse glass folk art painting is EXCELLENT. There are just a few nicks of minor paint loss that are not very noticeable. The frame is also in good condition, however, I would recommend mounting the glass more securely and replacing the cardboard backing. Overall, this collectible work of art looks fantastic and displays beautifully. Please take a close look at the many photos I’ve provided and judge condition for yourself. The bottom of the trunk is not painted and the wood looks like it is White Eastern Pine. The rest of the trunk is all painted. The Painting has wear through out. There are small nicks and scratchs. The Hinges are iron. The handles are also made of Iron. The painting is signed on the upper right corner (LILY G). The top board is seperated down the center. The front of the chest is Painted with a Horn Of Plenty. There is a hole on the left side of the trunk. The structure of the trunk is sound are ready to use in your home. American Folkart Ship Portrait, 1850’s, original maple frame, Gouache, sign E. W

It was painted circa 1850 and is done in watercolor and gouache. This came to us in what appears to be the original maple frame. The painting measures 18 1/2X27 inches. It is initialed in the lower left corner as E. The overall painting is in good shape, there are two areas of toning which certainly came from the original wooden backing boards. This came to us framed, we have not taken it apart. The maple has a flaw in the bottom right corner but for its age the colors are still rich, a highly detailed work. The overall frame measures 21 1/2X29 1/2 inches. We guarantee that this is a genuine period painting and not a repro or modern depiction.
