Here is an unusual folk art walking stick. This is a signed piece made by the late Volker Martin, former member of the Putnam Valley folk artists assoc. He would search the forests to find branches with bitter root vines growing around them. He would cut them off and decorate them with paint and some modeling to the eyes. The workmanship in this is incredible he really had a feel for his materials. One of his canes is owned by General Colin Powell, also one is in the collection of Prince Charles. Sadly Volker passed away 5 years ago. He did not make many pieces, this is a one of a kind. It is signed on the bottom as shown in photo. The piece measures 45″ n length, the snake is 1 1/2″ in diameter and the branch is about 2 in diameter. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”.
