ANGEL PAIR on WOOD. Both painted on thick 8.5 x 32.5 wood and signed bottom right. VERY GOOD CONDITION with Typical small nick here and there, typical for a BANK’S work. These pieces exemplify the emotion and talents of Mr. INCREDIBLE Vibrant colors, which my camera did NOT capture well, and Michael’s signature razor etchings! BIO: Michael has won many honors with his work which has been exhibited in New York, Denver, and Atlanta. The Hurn Museum in Savannah, Georgia presented a One-Man exhibition of his work in 2005 and has a number of his works in their permanent collection. Articles featuring his work have appeared in Southern Living magazine (August 2006) and Better Homes and Gardens (August 2006). A review of his Hurn exhibition in the Savannah Morning News stated, “Michael Banks: Outsider Artist” offers Savannah’s most rewarding and penetrating solo show in recent memory. As this unforgettable exhibit clearly indicates, Banks is one outsider artist who has certainly earned the right to be on the inside. Michael Banks continues painting full time. Fantastic vintage stencil painted bentwood chair, in the Hitchcock style, black painted with green/ yellow hand stencil. Unmarked, maker may be early Hitchcock or another similar. American, likely very early bentwood, late 1800’s – early 1900’s. Good strong condition with age and wear stenciling very worn. Lots of age and patina. Original rush seats are strong and intact, one seat has a approx 2 cut on seat, does not detract much and could be stabilized w glue. Rush seats are also painted with green/ yellow color. Very unusual pair of chairs with beautiful rustic quality. Size each approx 34″ tall to top of back, 18″ seat height. Seats are approx 17″ across seat, 16.5″ depth. Each of these lovely 1890s frames retain nice original surface of bronze powder gilding on ornate gesso framing bright lemon gold coves and house richly colored oil on board fruit still lives signed and dated, M FULLER 1920. Measuring 17 x 21 ½ overall (each) with 12 x 16 ½ reveal (sight) and 12 ½ x 17 actual, the paintings are in good stable condition with no losses and expected surface grime for their age. One painting has a crease upper right with old in-paint. The panel has been reinforced with an old linen patch on the back. You will note losses in the fancy gesso edges on both frames. A charming pair of 19c portraits painted in watercolor and housed within period rosewood frames. The sitters are Mr. Members of White Hall Place (Royal Geographical Society) in London and pencil dated on verso 1837. Each frame measures 12.50″ x 10.25″ , the watercolor measuring approx. The condition is good considering age with some fading/toning noted on the interior paper. Surface wear to the frame and the inner gilt fillet. All tolled a handsome pair of decorative portraits. Pair c 1835 American school O/C folk art portraits, brother & sister, Maryland

Each is housed in an early 20th C custom frame with subtle difference in the measurements of each: For John, 26 1/2″ x 24 3/8″ (sight: 20 1/4″ x 18 1/4″) and for Elanor, 27 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ (sight: 21 1/2″ x 18 1/2″). Each frame is tagged so as to identify the sitter (see my 11th picture). My last picture shows the grave headstones for Elanor and John at the St. Andrews Episcopal Church Cemetery, Princess Anne, Somerset County, Maryland. Insofar as condition is concerned, overall excellent. The only discernible repair is a small touchup to Elanor’s cheek, which can be detected in my 6th picture… Beyond this my pictures tell the rest of the story of this classic pair of Federal era American school portraits.
