This is a Medium size Retablo and an original Painting from Cusco Peru, done in the 17th century Baroque “Cusco School” Style. The painting is in the middle and a large wood frame heavenly covered in Silver tone Milagros. Saint Michael the Archangel, he is the. Patron saint of grocers, mariners, paratroopers, police officers, and military personnel. Despite the painting coming from Peru, the wood retablo and decorative boarder was made in Patzcuaro Michoacan where the painting was incorporated into this nicho. It would make a wonderful gift for the devout person in your life, or a great addition to your Mexican Folk Art Collection.. 13 1/2 inches tall by 8 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/4 inch deep. YELLOW HAIRED MAN image…. Painted on a recycled mostly-RECTANGULAR thin board (see last photo). Measures 15.5 x 20. Painted on a recycled board, which is typical for a Banks’ piece… Again not perfectly square but displays VERY WELL! This piece exemplifies the emotion and talents of Mr. Vibrant colors, which my camera did NOT capture well! BIO: Michael has won many honors with his work which has been exhibited in New York, Denver, and Atlanta. The Hurn Museum in Savannah, Georgia presented a One-Man exhibition of his work in 2005 and has a number of his works in their permanent collection. Articles featuring his work have appeared in Southern Living magazine (August 2006) and Better Homes and Gardens (August 2006). A review of his Hurn exhibition in the Savannah Morning News stated, “Michael Banks: Outsider Artist” offers Savannah’s most rewarding and penetrating solo show in recent memory. As this unforgettable exhibit clearly indicates, Banks is one outsider artist who has certainly earned the right to be on the inside. Michael Banks continues painting full time. He states, I still experiment, combining both found objects as well as artist materials into my work. Every day I try to create. Painting is my life.
