Region: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Medium: acrylic and or mixed medium on leather or pleather wrapped and mounted to Masonite board. Signed on front lower right, hand tooled /engraved signature on side, titled, dated and signed again on verso. Measures: 11.75″ x 15.75″ Framed: 17.5″ x 21.5″. Condition: Dents, creases, crease lines, pressure marks, abrasions, light fading and or discoloration in areas, light toning from age, mild paint loss, tiny spots and stains. Painting was wrapped, stapled, then mounted to Masonite board. The most prominent visible wear are the crease lines (typical from bending, rolling, folding and adding pressure to leather type material). Painting still has vibrant colors and hangs exceptionally well. Frame condition: Cloth matting has some light staining, spots, mild toning and wear. Outer frame has dings, scuffs, scratches and wear from use.

Depicts a family scene outside on the lawn with what appears to be three generations of family. Two couples are embracing and dancing. The children are seated in parlour chairs, the grandmother holding one child. The family dog plays with its toy on the floor. Above all this the scene above shows two birds, believed to depict lovebirds and harmony. Next to the birds faded to the right is a tree which is sketched but not painted; the tree full of the birds. Housed behind glass in a 1800s period plain wooden frame. Wonderful piece of folk art. Frame: 14 1/2 (x) 12 1/2 in. Sight: 11 3/8 (x) 9 1/4 in. The paper shows overall natural age toning. Small piece missing in upper right corner. Frame has not been cleaned or polished, and shows some light scratches. Also as described above, and as shown in the photos. Early 19th century if not older. 15″ x 12.5″. Few dirt spots, some color lost around the canvas edge; one small chip off the frame, otherwise in very good condition. No signature can be found on this painting and it is in original, as found condition with a soiled varnish layer but no apparent losses to paint surface, aside from three small scratches in upper third. A good representation of one of Roseland’s most famous subjects (“Mixing The Love Potion”) probably from the early 1900’s. Through the publication of “Sunday supplement” prints, Roseland’s genre work in this series became very well known and reached thousands of home viewers, inspiring imitation by many amateur artists. This is one such work. I have owned and enjoyed this work for more than thirty years and now offer it for sale for the first time. Measuring only 8 7/8″ by 12 1/8″, this small Antique Oil Painting is executed on a wood panel and dates from the 18th century. It depicts a primitive genre scene with several buildings in the background. In the foreground you can see two country cows and a woman self portrait? There is an extremely fine and stable craquelar to the surface of this early painting, but there are no problems or any restorations. On the back of the wood panel is an old receipt from a previous owner. This 18th century painting comes in n early frame, which measures 14 1/2″ by 17″.
