This is a rare and fantastic ca 1870’s Folk Art oil on canvas painting of 3 Labrador Retrievers OR Cocker Spaniel breeds. A Chocolate Lab, a Black Lab and a white one, or a. White Clumber Spaniel, red is a Sussex Spaniel, dog in the rear is a Field Spaniel. Sporting dogs in a close team group. I love the naive faces on these guys and the way the the white one is laying head on the Chocolate one. This is pure folk art. I DO know is that this type of animal folk art is so hard to come by, especially from the 1800’s , its a rare treasure. They were not cheap… But then neither is this art work. Folk Art is still hot and great animals like these are hotter. The piece is unsigned as much folk art is. Its in wonderful as found condition and was prized by, like myself, its past owner. It is 18″ wide and 16.5″ tall in a period FANTASTIC Birdseye maple frame with gold leaf liner (1870s frame too). The period frame is worth a couple hundred alone! It has a couple very minor condition issues that u can see in my photos, but its an amazing frame. Wish I could give you some background on who these terrific pets are, but alas, that passed long ago. I just know they are fantastic. Any questions PLEASE ask!
