This was framed in Springfield Va so the may have been painted in that area. Framed sizing-21.5×17.5. Vintage Erzgebirge Expertic Germany Wood Sun Moon Star Celestial Family Folk Art

Presented here for your enjoyment is this whimsical set of Erzgebirge Expertic carved wood celestial family figurines from Germany! These wonderful, whimsical pieces of wooden folk art have been made in the Erzgebirge forest region of Germany for at least a century, I believe. This vintage set dates to somewhere in the 1949 to 1990 production period as evidenced by the factory labels with the German Democratic Republic designation. The set of six range in size from 1 5/8 to 3 1/2 tall. The Moon and Sun are the proud parents of four little star children in varying sizes. They all have the cutest little faces! Each piece is hand painted. The colors are glorious, with the creamy paint applied smooth and glossy. The condition of the set is generally very good! Look closely and can see a tiny chip on the gold painted base of the sun, along with an even smaller flake on the back of the head. They are otherwise very minty! Vintage Mexican Ex Voto Tin Painting Retablo, Young Family, Cortazar Gto, ca1940

Submitted for your thoughtful consideration: Ex-votos are a scene depicting a tragedy or someone with a grave illness or injury, saint or martyr that intervened to ” save the day ” and an inscription describing the tragic event and giving thanks for the divine intervention. Typically the saint depicted is. Virgin of San Juan de los Lagos. Late last year (2019) a couple of really old antique dealers had to downsize from their home on the San Francisco Peninsula. These examples of Mexican Faith and Folk Art are part of that collection. They were all wrapped in Mexican newspaper dated in the early 70? Some of my collector friends looked at them, informing me that they are all vintage and not the reproductions which abound in the market place. This lovely scene with the young couple and their child, is wonderfully painted, from Cortazar, Gto and dated 1940. There is wax on the surface, which we assume is from the candles at the church. 1820’s CLASSIC MOURNING PAINTING FOLK ART Historic DALRYMPLE Mass. FAMILY

This is an outstanding and dramatic folk art mourning watercolor painting in its original period gold leaf frame. Memorialized are members of of tne Dalrymple family of Massachussetts: Sally age 9 who died April 7, 1810 (of spotted fever I discovered); William age 30 who died Dec. 14, 1811 (while traveling to Quebec); Henry age 29 years who died May 22, 1814 (of bullet wounds while serving in the United States Army in the War of 1812); and Ann 27 years old who died Sept. 5, 1825 (of Dysentary). There is a note at the bottom of the painting indicating that the information was provided by Eliza Dalrymple their youngest sister – who became a teacher in Marlborough, Mass. I quickly found the historical information on the internet in the William L. Clements Library, University of Michigan. By the way, Henry was a cooper in Watertown, Mass. Antique Victorian Full Length Family Portrait Folk Art Silhouette Painting c1840

You are viewing a n antique early Victorian painted silhouette of a large family 11 including the dog/pony! I would estimate it was painted sometime around 1840. This silhouette is one of three all from the same source, and all three were painted on card on the back of an old print. It also looks like all three silhouettes were framed at some point as they show evidence of yellowing where a frame once displayed them. This silhouette measures approximately 4 1/4 inches by 8 inches and has been matted in a modern mat which measures 6 1/2 by 9 1/4 inches. It is in great condition with no tears or holes.
