Antique 19th Century New England Winter Landscape Folk Art Oil Painting Signed

Antique 19th century, c1850s, original New England folk art oil painting. Depicts a winter landscape scene complete with a large house on a lake. The lake is surrounded by detailed trees and foliage; another house can be seen further down with trees disappearing into the horizon. Above the scene a dark sky can be noted with ominous clouds rolling through. Very well done with super detail, especially in the trees and plants. Boasts great capture of light, depth and shadow. Medium is oil on canvas done in a Folk Art style. Canvas affixed to early stretcher bars with antique nails. Signed by the artist in the bottom right corner. Looks to read O. Battis ; worthy of further research. Has a great patina with lots of age toning and cracking to the paint which is typical of a piece with this much age. In my opinion the toning and cracking add to the character of the piece and enhance it by acting as a testament to its age and authenticity. Two small puncture holes along the right side but not noticeable until a closer inspection is done (see photo 8). Small knick to center of the painting. Eye catching and appealing. New England Pine Paint Decorated Slide Lid Box or Trinket Document Box Folk Art

The pictures do not do justice to this box. The background color is a beautiful Shaker Blue with mustard banding and star decorations in mustard with red highlights. The box is constructed of antique vintage pine and early nails. The paint decoration is a newer addition. It measures 6-1/2″ long x 2-1/4″ tall x 3-1/8 wide. Pine double wall box in old blue/grey paint. Nicely proportioned double wall box with stepped front panels. The paint is guaranteed old with some in-painting and touch-up along with some nail holes filled as well. The back, bottom and sides are constructed of 3/4″ pine while the front panels are 1/2″ pine. This is a reconstruction made from antique pine with old original paint. Rustic with lots of bumps and bruises and scratches. It measures 11″ wide x 14-12″ tall x 4-1/4 deep (front to back). Fabulous Antique New England Folk Art Diorama Sailing Ship Victorian Nautical

This one is on glass; the other is smaller and on board. This diorama is a wonderful piece of antique Folk Art, a survivor of an art form that is becoming quite rare. This fabulous piece is in an old, faded Victorian period frame and was created on glass. The piece is not behind glass, it is not a shadowbox, and it is currently a little dirty from years of storage. The sails are cream colored, showing discoloration and grime from age. The hull is painted black. The front sail is missing its mast and the front is missing the browsprit; the outlines of both can still be seen on the painting (with a few small areas of paint loss). The ocean is very choppy, dark green and blue with white caps. There are painted clouds in the sky and a few sea gulls. There are areas of paint loss in the background, as shown in the photos. This is not signed, as far as I can tell. I believe this easily dates to the last quarter of the 19th century, if not earlier. This piece is quite dirty. I gave it a very light cleaning but it would benefit and look much brighter with additional cleaning. The frame is also dirty and discolored with chips and bumps. The back has remnants of its old paper dust covering and the painting is currently backed with corrugated cardboard. The piece (including the frame) is 18″ h x 21″ w. This is an amazing piece that reflects the sea going industry which was and is such a big part of south eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the islands. A genuine piece of Americana.
