AAFA EARLY FOLK ART ANTIQUE WALL SHELF ORIGINAL WHITE PAINT SQUARE NAILS. Up for sale is this wonderful one of a kind wall shelf. It’s old, its paint is wonderfully crackled and alligatored. It’s wood, and it appears to be the original old paint. It is white with wood color, beige, green and even a few blue undertones. The white paint is very old. It’s got edgewear and paint chips / missing paint but it’s adorable with lots of age and patina! The supports are nicely scalloped as you can see in the pictures. On the back, the little scallops are held in to the back board with little square nails. On the front, there are a number of places where they put holes through the face board to hold it to the wall. All of this just adds such wonderful character to this shelf! On the top, there are two newer eye hooks as you can see in the pictures. These could easily be unscrewed if you don’t want them. This is truly a one-of-a-kind item. The shelf measures 48″ L at the top and 43″ L along the back x 8.75″ H x 8″ D. The wood on the top is 1 thick. We don’t know the age of this item. There are nicks, scrapes, edge wear, paint loss, fading, dings and worn paint as you can see in the pictures but nothing you wouldn’t expect from an item of this age. We will do our best to answer your questions. Thank you for looking at this item. We have a number of new items so check out our other items. We will handle them on a case-by-case basis. We will do the same. We couldn’t sell anything if it wasn’t for you and the time you have taken to spend looking at our items. As a very small business we strive to keep you as our customer! We GUARANTEE that your item(s) will be received as described. We work hard to describe them correctly and in detail (note that the pictures are part of the description) with all flaws (if any) exposed. Fabulous Americana Folk Art Antique 19th Century Oil Painted Head Cloth Rag Girl
This is a Fabulous Americana Folk Art Antique 19th Century Oil Painted Head Cloth Rag Girl Doll in Calico Dress 28 Inch. I have had a few of these Americana folk art painted head cloth rag dolls over the years and I always marvel at the beautiful rendering of the hand painted facial features, hair, hands, feet and eyes that give these gals such a distinct glow about them. This tall 28 inch doll was beautifully made from cotton muslin, and rag/cotton/something-crunchy stuffed. Her folk art hand painting continues to her neck and upper torso. She was treadle machine sewn and hand stitched. She has mitt hands with opposing thumb, well defined fingers and toes, a well proportioned body (one arm a little longer than the other), jointed at the hip, knee and shoulders so she can sit, and she has some aging, staining and wear to the fabric as you would expect of an antique cloth doll. The shoulders have some restitching/repair work. Her oil painted face and hair were hand painted and beautifully rendered. The whites of her eyes were never painted. There is some wear to the paint and three fabric splits (one to the left eye and two to the chin). Along with her blue eyes, she has a realistically painted nose, flesh color skin, delightfully smiling heart shaped mouth, bright rosy cheeks and a molded chin achieved through sewn darts. Her facial structure fabric was gathered around the top of the head, and dark blond brush-stroke painted curls define the hair. The pink and white print calico dress is not original that I know of, but fits her very well. It was treadle machine sewn the wrist cuffs have been pinned to fit the wrist better so that her hands can be viewed. She has no underthings, but wears a white lace trimmed dimity apron so that her waist and form are defined. I always marvel at the hand painting and like to think that artists or itinerant artists possibly painted the heads for these dolls. They look so much like portraiture of the period.
