Most probably rural France; a very well painted, and typical, example of the work of Maröhn. On a lovely chamfered teak panel – often the sign of a very good artist. Very clearly signed in bottom Right Hand corner. Ready to hang straight on the wall where it is at the moment in my study, and has been for a number of years! Ferdinand Maröhn (also called Maronnio) was born in Germany, lived in France and painted mostly in a Dutch style. His biographical data are only partially known but. He exhibited many times at the Berlin Academy and, from 1846 to 1859, in several Parisian Salons. Maröhn was a prolific artist whose works have been included in the collections of some French museums (Reims and Ajaccio). Ian Emmerson Paintings was established in 1975 and was incorporated in 1997.
