It is signed and dated on the front “May Kugler 1990″ and is titled on the back, by the artist, Hog Killing. May has also written a story about this painting which reads. When I was a young child, my parents would kill a hog. I would go in a dark room and put my fingers in my ears. But in this picture I’m married, my husband and mother are by the hog on the table. My son and daughter is running around and some one is smoking andoule sp? I have my red dress on. We would taste a lot and at night we were sick. Classic Antique Maritime Folk Art Painted Dory Boat & Oars, Model, NR.. The blue trim and white paint on this antique Folk Art, Dory Boat Model are original. Measuring 22 ¾” long by 5 ¾” wide at the middle, the height at the bow is 3 ½. There is a thin slot for a tin keel and the back floor board is removable. Along with this circa-1900 Dory Model are three handmade Oars. They measures 12 long and also retains the original paint. We have the original tiller, but the top section and tiller arm has broken off and is missing.. Listed without any reserve this antique Maritime Boat Model has no reserve. FANTASTIC 19th c AMERICAN FOLK ART PORTRAIT OF A BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY

This is an ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC 19th c AMERICAN FOLK ART PORTRAIT of a BEAUTIFUL YOUNG LADY! It is a WONDERFUL, LARGE, LIFE-SIZE portrait of a young woman in mourning. She is dressed in black. She wears black gloves, and a ANCHOR PIN in the middle of her white bow. She wears a wedding ring, and holds two white roses. The piece is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. It has been RE-LINED for many years of TROUBLE FREE enjoyment. There is in-painting as seen in the photo taken under black light, but is appears the in-painting just added some shading and did not change the features at all. On the back of what appears to be the ORIGINAL STRETCHER, is carved, W M Prior. The frame is a later frame and not original. What makes this piece really special is the attractiveness of the lady. Often times folk art portraits are not of very attractive people. You don’t have that with THIS PIECE! This piece would DEFINATELY make a statement in any room it was located in! It’s a CLASSIC AMERICAN PIECE and if by Prior would be a VERY IMPORTANT PIECE AS WELL! I have included in the last picture a collage of other William Matthew Prior portraits to compare this piece to. Antique 19thC Spanish Colonial Folk Art Crucifix Jesus Carved & Painted Santos

Antique 19thC Spanish Colonial Folk Art Crucifix Jesus Carved & Painted Santos.. Tonight we will be listing several auctions with examples of antique Spanish Colonial, Christian Carvings. Century Folk Art Carvings. The antique Crucifix measures 9 ½” wide by 4 ½” at the base, and the overall height to the top of the Cross is 20 ½. Over the years the original paint has worn away plus the tiny separate hands on Mother Mary and one of the Saints are missing. There also are some fingers missing from the Crucified Jesus. The second antique Spanish Colonial Carving depicts Jesus as a young man. He is standing on a 4 ¼” by 5″ painted base, and the overall height is 13. Both forearms are missing and there is heavy wear to the original paint. We are listing these two early Spanish Colonial Santos Carvings without any reserve. Rare 1856 Primitive Wedding Box in Original Grungy Red Paint Folk Art

1856 antique folk art wooden wedding box in superb original “untouched” dry and grungy oxblood red and black paint. Fresh to the market – a well preserved mid 19th century folk art box. Sadly, we are at a point where we need to part with some of her antiques. Boxes such as this were typically made for a couple as a wedding present. It is rare to find such an old box in this condition, especially signed and dated. A truly beautiful and highly sought after example of a 19th century heirloom. After over a century and a half it stills retains its original hand forged hardware and untouched dry painted surface with an exceptional patina. The date and four initials are painted on the front of the box in creamy yellow. I think the initials are L. There is writing in lead on the inside of the lid which is difficult to make out. However, it looks like an inscription to the original recipients and a signature, likely of the maker. It appears to be original to the box. This adds beautifully to the history of this fabulous old piece. Perhaps someone with better eyes than mine can decipher it. The finish is dry, the corners are dovetailed, hand scraping in several areas is evident, the nails, hinges, latch for hooking/locking and handle are primitive and hand forged. A few nails do appear to have been added sometime around the turn of the century. The rose head nails that secure the hinges are some of the largest and nicest you will find, nearly the size of a dime. Approximately 12 1/2 inches long by 7 1/8 inches deep by 7 1/2 inches high. It appears to be constructed of native poplar and pine and is heavy for its size weighing 4 pounds, 11 ounces. There are three small spots of brighter red paint that splattered onto the box at some point in its long history. Typical wear, as well as light paint and surface losses associated with the age of the box are present and are expected of an antique that is 161 years old. It looks like the bottom was originally one piece of wood that cracked down the center with age. A very solid and sturdy box in what we consider to be very good overall condition for its age. This is a museum quality small antique chest. I try to describe all of our items as accurately as possible. Antique NH White Mountains, Old Man of the Mountain Folk Art O/C Oil Painting

After years of trying to preserve the natural rock sculpture called the Old Man of the Mountain it finely came crashing down on May 3, 2003. Measuring 14″ by 20″ this stretched canvas, Folk Art Oil Painting depicts the Old Man on the Mountain and at the bottom you can just see two people in a small canoe. Unsigned, this original Painting has one restoration in the trees on the right hand side. There are no other problems or restorations and this circa 1900 Oil Painting comes in its original 17 ¾” by 23 ¾” gold gilt frame. Measuring only 8 7/8″ by 12 1/8″, this small Antique Oil Painting is executed on a wood panel and dates from the 18th century. It depicts a primitive genre scene with several buildings in the background. In the foreground you can see two country cows and a woman self portrait? There is an extremely fine and stable craquelar to the surface of this early painting, but there are no problems or any restorations. On the back of the wood panel is an old receipt from a previous owner. This 18th century painting comes in n early frame, which measures 14 1/2″ by 17″.
