This beautiful and colorful watercolor is of the racehorse Zenyatta and her jockey. Zenyatta won 19 of her 20 starts and was inducted into The National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame in 2016. I absolutely love the colors Ron used and the resemblance to Zenyatta is spot on. This painting would look right at place in a den or study or anywhere a pop of color is needed in your home. Ron was a gifted and talented self-taught artist. Framed in a black acrylic frame under glass. Art size showing is 9.5″ X 7.5″. Ron found art to be his true passion in life after separating from the Air Force in 1995. Not only was Ron a self-taught artist, but he also taught a crippled racehorse, Metro, to paint. Metro was adopted by Ron and his wife when Metro was injured on the racetrack. They were also successful in increasing adoption applications by over 50% and they were featured in news media all over the world.

Mid Century Acrylic Painting Sharecropper by Charles Knox Outsider Folk Art
Mid Century Acrylic Painting “Sharecropper” by Charles Knox. With an emphasis on expression over realism, this Charles Knox painting vividly portrays the worry on this sharecroppers face. A textured paint technique creates layers of depth and adds dimension. Knox has a raw, immediate quality to his brushwork that indicates he was painting outside of traditional art school conventions. While the exact year “Sharecropper” was painted is unknown, the simple wood frame and linen matting are indicative of a mid century origin, perhaps between 1965 and 1974. With Frame: Height: 29″ x Length: 23″. Art Only: Height: 24″ x Length: 17 3/4″. Art is in very good vintage preowned condition. Frame and mat show some wear. Colors may vary due to lighting. (meeting arrangements can be made in Riverside, Orange County, LA, San Bernardino or San Diego, please text for details).

Measures: 11 ¼” tall x 10 1/8″ across. The Folk art Painting is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. If you have any questions or need a few more photos, please let me know. Mose Tolliver grew up in the Pike Road Community in Alabama, born to a family of sharecroppers. In the late 1960’s, a load of marble crushed his legs and almost killed him. The accident left him unable to work. In 1970, at the encouragement of his former employer, he began to paint. Developing a signature wet-on-wet technique, Tolliver began painting animals, people, plants, fruits and vegetables, all in flat perspective, stylistically refined as elementary shapes and symbols.

Mid-Century Outsider Art Girl in Yellow Oil on 10x12 Linoleum D. Hayden
A haunting and memorable example of mid-century outsider art, this small but commanding oil painting is signed D. Hayden and executed unusually on linoleum, a surface occasionally used by self-taught artists of the 1940s-60s. The piece features a wide-eyed girl in a mustard-yellow dress standing in a stark urban alleyway, her pose confident but her gaze unsettling. A black cat lurks at the edge of the scene, adding a surreal, almost narrative tension. The bold stylization, simplified anatomy, and eerie atmosphere give the work a distinct Big-Eyes / Pop-Folk sensibility that collectors love. Presented in its original mid-century gold frame, ready to display. Hayden (signed lower left) Era: Mid-century Medium: Oil on linoleum Size: 10″ x 12″ (artwork), approx. 14″ x 16″ in frame Style: Outsider Art / Big-Eyes / Urban Pop-Folk Frame: Vintage gold frame in good condition Condition: Excellent for age; light surface wear consistent with vintage pieces.
