Has recaptured his own life experiences growing up on the rural eastern shore of Maryland in the 1930’s and 1940s as a young migrant laborer. Born in a labor camp in 1932, self-taught artist Alphonso Willums painted his experiences growing up in the 1930’s and 1940s. Willums’ art is owned and exhibited by the Maryland Historical Society, Universities, and Restaurants, but it was largely a cathartic activity he was reluctant to commercialize. Artist signed original oil painting on cotton board.
