Small dome top document box decorated with wall- stenciler’s patterns. 19th century, constructed of poplar with original hinges and hasp lock. Nice and clean inside. Measurements are: 11-1/4″ wide x 5″ tall x 7-1/8 deep. The box is an original early document box with later paint decoration and a nice dry surface. The box features a red background with compote motif on the front and top along with fancy stenciled borders. Wear to the top and scratches and wear to the front and sides. Antique 19thC FOLK ART BOX BLACK PAINT AAFA Document/ Pantry/ Candle/ Primitive. Folky mid 19th century homemade box in dry black paint. Applied wood strips continue on all walls of the box as well as rondelle and conical brass tack decoration. Strike plate removed at some point, likely when the key was lost (see pic 18). Some errant paint on lid in red and green, looks period and may be a clue to what the box was used for dried sealing wax? Back edge of lid broke off long ago. I’m not one who believes damage “adds character” in all cases but at least its old loss that had time to patinate and is not glaring (see pic 7). Great condition over all with scattered paint loss, surface wear. Approx 10.75″L x 6.75″W x 5 tall. See pics for additional details and any questions please ask. This is a wonderful miniature paint decorated blanket chest. It measure only 12″ wide x 7″ tall x 4-3/4 deep. Constructed of pine with tiny square cut nails it features a dark green background with red and yellow banding on the front with an urn and a cornucopia on the top. It has a wonderful cut out base as well. The dark green paint is original old paint. The decoration is a new addition. This little chest is a fabrication made from old vintage wood with original surface. The end grain and cut edges have been painted to match. It even has a small till inside. Up for sale is this nicely-preserved hand-painted document or storage box from the mid-19th century. Made from pine with iron cut nails and cast iron hinges. Dimensions – 14-1/4″ long x 9-5/8″ wide x 8-1/2 tall. This exterior of the box exhibits beautiful green floral motifs and patterns. The inside of the box appears to have been “papered” with various types of wallpaper – most of which is now missing. Antique 19th C PA Wooden PAINTED Folk Art BIBLE Document Valuables BOX CHEST. Antique 19th C PA Wooden PAINTED Folk Art BIBLE Document Valuables BOX CHEST- Dated 1848 – An antique wooden valuables or document box. It is made of PA wood and is heavy in weight and has very nicely crafted details- this is a box that was made by a country craftsman. There is some wear to the painted surface as expected and it has a nice history of age and good painted surface or patina. It is difficult to describe the color of the paint. It is a grayish greenish hue but looks different in different light. The color you see in person may be different than the one you see in the photos as photography does not always show the exact hue. It has a nice painted surface any way you look at though. It is dated 1848 on the bottom of the box (see 2nd and 6th photo). It has remnants of the original leather handles and nails on the sides of the box- we left as found. The lock inside is a very old replacement and there are handmade wire cotter pin type hinges (see 11th photo) and there is a molding on the back that was attached to support the lid as it is opened (see 8th photo). It is made with Square Nails. It is a wonderful box. It measures approx 7 12/16″ wide X 13.5″ long and approx 6.75 tall. View my other auctions for additional fine period items.
