Many of our offerings are. Fresh to the market from local estates in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Late 19th century folk art oil painting on wood panel depicting three children by the shore line. The children appear to be playing a game of horse riding-the older girl is carrying on her back a younger child who has lost one of her shoes. And is holding up a bunch of flowers. The boy to the left of the painting is holding the reins. The frame measures 23. Wide x 28 1/2. The painting measures 17 1/2. Condition notations: Surface grime, craquelure, toning, grime. The wood board upon which the painting is done appears to have been found material and has a raised area mid-right side edge which has some sort of fasteners, as shown last two photos. There is some minor paint loss on this area as shown. Period frame with appliqué cartouche corner spandrels. The frame retains it. S original gilt surfaces; there is minor wear and narrow finish loss as shown mid- left side. Huge Antique WEIRD CHILDREN Photo Tint PAINTING Portrait Primitive FOLK ART Vtg

I recently acquired it at an estate sale of a woman who was an antique dealer for many years. I’m certainly not an art expert, so I will attempt to describe it as well as I can, but please ask any questions you might have. The clothing appears to be painted, but I don’t see or feel any brush strokes on the faces. However, the faces do look painted, just no obvious brush strokes. The surface that the portrait is on doesn’t feel like canvas. It’s’hard’, but’bumpy’. The faces do look that’s what they could be. The clothing has some brush strokes, so they might also be hand tinted, then perhaps some paint was added. I just can’t tell for sure. The picture is huge, with a framed measurement of 34″ x 27 1/2″. The frame has a few scratches, but nothing significant. There is a signature at the bottom, but it’s so very faint that I can just barely make out that it’s a signature at all. I have no idea what it says, though. There are a few scratches near the bottom of the picture. This is just weird enough that it’s extremely cool! I mean, really, who wouldn’t want this hanging over the mantel. Guaranteed, this will be the focal point of any room, and its sure to be a conversation starter with any social group you are entertaining! Large 19th century folk art painting Mother & Children in Nature beautiful

This sale is for a 19th century folk art painting of a mother with her children in nature. It is an oil on canvas. It is in its original frame, which measures 31 1/4″ wide by 42 1/4″ tall. The painting itself measures 25 1/4″ wide by 36 1/2″ tall. It has craquelure throughout, and a little chipping on the mother’s neck, but overall it is a stunning piece and would look great in a Victorian or classicly decorated home. I had a frame store put a paper shield over the back of the frame to protect the painting. There is a little tear in the paper, but it does not affect the painting in any way.
