This is an antique French wedding chest, made of pinewood. This wedding trunk dates from the 19th century and is hand painted on all sides in a soft, spring green color (except for the back of the trunk, which has been repainted in the past, since it has a darker green color). The top of this French dowry chest features two painted floral wreaths with two initials in it (L & H) and the front and both short sides feature colorful, hand painted flower bouquets and floral designs. The bridal chest is in pretty good condition with wear, consistent with age and use; the originial lock is missing, the top of the chest has two large cracks and a chunk of wood missing, the paint has faded in some places, the bottom is a bit loose and there are traces of paint loss, splits, cracks, scuffs, chips, scratches, old woodworm holes (which have been treated) and general wear. It measures 24″ long x 12.2″ wide x 10.4 tall (61 cm x 31 cm x 26.5 cm). Antique 1835 Folk Art Tool Box, Coffer, Chest Orig. Paint, Forged Iron Hinges. Early 19th Century Tool Box or Coffer with Forged Iron strapping and inside storage box. Dated 1835, box has all original paint. Large wide dovetails, early nails and hinged, Lock but no key. Its an unusual almost square shape and can be used as a stool or low bench. Inside is a hinged storage box. All original patina, boards are wide and early. Believed Scandinavian or Eastern US origin. A fantastic folk art Coffer. Paint Decorated Miniature Blanket Chest or Document Box New York State, Folk Art

Beautiful little paint decorated miniature blanket chest or document box. The paint decoration is similar to one found in New York State. The box features a unique painted pattern on the front and sides in shades of salmon, red, green and yellow. It has wire hinges, a till inside, a nice base molding and delicately turned legs. This is a quality reconstruction made from old vintage poplar and pine. The back is unpainted. There is damage to the inside back edge of the top. (See photo) The dimensions are: 9-3/4″ wide x 5-1/4″ tall x 3-1/2 deep (front to back). There are scrapes and small dents. This is a very nice miniature chest. 19th c. Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880

Scandinavian small folk art painted dome topped chest / trunk dated 1880’s A wonderful small Norwegian kiste, or dome top blanket chest with a nicely decorated decoration on the front and dome topped with a beautiful comb paint surrounding the rest of the chest. Rosemaling (rose painting) designs and lettering. A lock is present as is the key which is a giant plus. The outer edge of this box has text painted in black. The early script is defining this as Norwegian…. If I’m incorrect please let me know. The piece is painted in the traditional manner of decorated items familiar to this era and regions. It has a natural interior with wonderful heavy ironwork hinges. Ironwork and peg construction can be seen in close-up photo. The dome top is decorated with a strong design consisting. The chest is 15 by 10 by 9.5 The overall condition of the piece is quite good and again, so very attractive. It is structurally very solid and well built. The top is still tightly attached and the hinges are holding strong. One decorative interior iron looks as the tip is broken off. The painted surface is in excellent condition although the piece has an early, old re-paint over the original by the owners descendants, and shows a light coat of shellacking and as a result protected the surface through the many years. My flash doesn’t due the piece justice. This box is as nice as they get. Very hard to find and you will wait a long time before you find another this appealing and with a working lock and key. Perfect size for almost any space. Perfect for the Scandinavian decor or as a gift. Thanks for looking and as always, visit often! The item “19th c. Miniature Blanket Chest or Document Box in Old Red Paint Nice Size Folk Art

Beautiful miniature blanket chest or document box in old red paint. The paint on this chest is original old wine red paint with the exception of the end cuts that were color matched. It has brass hinges, a nice little rectangular escutcheon (non functioning), and a molded top panel. The dimensions are: 9-5/8″ wide x 5-7/8″ tall x 4 deep (front to back). This is a reconstruction made from old original painted pine and tiny square cut nails. There are scrapes and paint spatters on the front and top panels. A very nice small size. Antique Scandinavian Norwegian Folk Art Hand Painted’os’ Rosemaling Chest Box

ANTIQUE SCANDINAVIAN NORWEGIAN FOLK ART HAND PAINTED ROSEMALING CHEST BOX. An antique Norwegian folk art small chest probably made as a wedding gift. Dating to the 19th century, the box is made from Nordic pine and decorated with’Os’ region rosemaling floral pattern on a white base edged with gold. The chest measures 8.5 x 4.5 x 5 inches. The original wire handle and metal lock remain in place but no key. The interior retains the original small compartment with painted lid, the retaining pin has become loose on one side. The box and painted surface shows the signs of age and wear as can be seen but remain in otherwise good overall condition. Please see my listings for details. A charming well preserved early 19th century trunk. Made from poplar with hand dovetailing throughout. This trunk bears the original hand painted floral motif with red, green and yellows over blue. READ ABOUT OUR GALLERY. FINE AMERICAN RED FLAME PAINTED ANTIQUE BLANKET CHEST. 1830-50, preserved in nearly untouched original condition Item # 1402BQS21PA. This is a very fine and remarkably well preserved antique American blanket chest with a delightful flame painted original surface, the whole executed very skillfully to imitate match booked mahogany veneers. Originating from the Southeastern counties of Pennsylvania, this chest was crafted in the second quarter of the nineteenth century. The molded edge is affixed to the top with wooden pegs around the perimeter, this lifting over original iron hinges (retaining original hand filed screws) to reveal a clean and large interior. The till on the left has a panel beneath it, originally lockable but now easily opened by pulling to reveal two small drawers, each handsomely crafted with tidy dovetails and nailed bottoms, retaining their original turned wooden knobs. The bottom of the case is attached to the sides with large wooden pegs driven through the underside into the frame, each corner having a square wooden block affixed with square iron nails into which the large dowels of the feet are sunk. The feet are beautifully turned balls topped by a sharp ring, each well worn and attractively patinated. Nearly untouched and retaining originality in every aspect of the case, this is an outstanding addition to the period interior. 47″ wide x 22 1/16″ deep x 25 1/4 high. Condition Report: No keys. Old Folk Art Vintage Chest Box Painted Moon Stars & Sun Mystical Occult Symbols

Folk Art Chest / Box Vintage, hand-crafted , wooden , painted & decorated by hand. Beveled, hinged lid and beveled platform. Nearly 12 wide, overall. About 7.75 deep. Made and painted completely by hand. On the lid is a beautifully painted sun design with a human face. In the four corners of the lid are painted, circular designs ; they almost could be red eyes. On both the front and on the back is a very attractive painted crescent moon, each also with a face, against a field of night-time stars. Both the sun and the moons have full lips and very piercing eyes. The front and back are also decorated with painted five-point stars. The left side is decorated with a dynamic painted yin / yang symbol , representing duality and connected opposites – as do also the sun and moon designs, rulers of the day and of the night. The inside lid is also decorated with painted five-point stars. Mystical symbols and decorations of this kind are often seen in the occult ; astrology , the tarot , alchemy , etc. Undated of course, but this chest is clearly old ; sometime in the first half of the 1900’s , perhaps circa 1920’s – 1930’s – 1940’s. No sign that it is haunted , but with piercing eyes on those moon & sun faces, it almost feels like it could be. For what it was used originally remains unknown ; perhaps it was used to store a tarot card deck , runes , or other divination devices , magical items , crystals , or other small mystical treasures. The open-ended compartment underneath is a good size for storing an athame ceremonial dagger , or other magical tool for traditional witchcraft , Wicca , etc. (compartment size is 10″ deep , 5 3/8″ wide , 2 1/8 high) [the dagger shown in the photos is not included] Unusual and genuinely unique.
