Antique 19th C PA Wooden PAINTED Folk Art BIBLE Document Valuables BOX CHEST- Dated 1848 – An antique wooden valuables or document box. It is made of PA wood and is heavy in weight and has very nicely crafted details- this is a box that was made by a country craftsman. There is some wear to the painted surface as expected and it has a nice history of age and good painted surface or patina. It is difficult to describe the color of the paint. It is a grayish greenish hue but looks different in different light. The color you see in person may be different than the one you see in the photos as photography does not always show the exact hue. It has a nice painted surface any way you look at though. It is dated 1848 on the bottom of the box (see 2nd and 6th photo). It has remnants of the original leather handles and nails on the sides of the box- we left as found. The lock inside is a very old replacement and there are handmade wire cotter pin type hinges (see 11th photo) and there is a molding on the back that was attached to support the lid as it is opened (see 8th photo). It is made with Square Nails. It is a wonderful box. It measures approx 7 12/16″ wide X 13.5″ long and approx 6.75 tall. View my other auctions for additional fine period items.
