This is a delightful antique portrait of a mother with her child. The painting (sight) measures 30-1/2″ x 25-1/4″ and is framed in an antique gilt wood and gesso frame measuring 36″ x 28-3/4″. I just love these mother & child portraits. They give me so much hope that, despite all the turmoil in the world, life goes on, and life is still good. Condition: Craquelure, scattered flaking and losses to paint surface (please see photos). In-painting to mother’s face, neck, and small areas of background. Frame shows scattered cracks, and some losses to gesso. Please excuse the flash in the next to last photo, as I was trying to get a good photo of the frame. Thanks for stopping by. HUGE + MAGNIFICENT Mexican 19th Century Retablo Oval Painting Holy Trinity

We are very proud to offer an exceptional and rare original Mexican religious retablo painting. Oil on canvas, likely mid to late 1800’s. The quality of the workmanship if clearly a highly trained professional–not folk. Sublime shading / chiaroscuro technique. The paint is firm and stable. Of particular note is of course the unusual oval shape of this piece, contained in what appears to be its original frame–a heavy wooden piece with a very nice age-induced sheen. The paint appears to be largely original–95 percent or so. There are a few repairs (evident when you look at the photo of the verso) where gauze was applied in a few places and there was some touch-up work done. All of these appear to be quite old repairs and not uncommon for a piece of this vintage. Specifically, the areas above the three figures a patch of sky about 1.5 x 1.5 inches appears to have had subsequent paint applications, though these have aged as well. There are also a couple of tiny tears, which are visible on close inspection. These do not impact the main figures–two tiny holes on the top right above the figures and one on the lower left — within the edge of the robe of the figures. Otherwise ready to hang and sure to be a centerpiece for any serious collection of Mexican antiques, art and religious items. The piece is firmly within the frame (we had an expert framer secure it) with new hanging hardware–ready to display. This is an imposing 23 x 32 inches view area and, with the frame, a total of 31 x 40 inches. Thank you for looking. Please drop us a line if you have any questions. Minor tear in the chest which has been mended. Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, KG, GCB, GCH, PC, FRS (1 May 1769 14 September 1852) was an Anglo-Irish soldier and Tory statesman who was one of the leading military and political figures of 19th-century Britain, serving twice as prime minister. He ended the Napoleonic Wars when he defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. The Duke of Wellington is portrayed wearing The Distinguished Order of the Golden Fleece (Spanish: Insigne Orden del Toisón de Oro, German: Orden vom Goldenen Vlies) which is a Catholic order of chivalry founded in Bruges by Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy, in 1430, to celebrate his marriage to Isabella of Portugal.
