This is a colorful pink folk art tree of life single candle holder for Mexican folk art lovers! . The base color is hot pink with a tint of flourescent which makes it pop. The detailed painting is done in fire engine red, peach, white and primary blue. All the accent pieces around the tree are on bendable wire. Underneath, on the base “Sablan” is embossed into the clay along with the words: peace, love and joy. This is a rare piece and a beautiful example of Mexican / Spanish colonial folk art. It is a hand-made, and hand-painted, barrel top chest (baul) from the state of Guerrero. The chest is intricately painted on all sides with stylized deer and birds and f. Bold colors and a rich waxed finish. There are no hinges or hardware. The arched top just sits on the base, but you can easily add a hinge if you want one. Overall the piece measures 13″ tall by 17″ wide and 12 deep. Both boxes are the same size. Olinala is famous for its production of fine chests (bauls), gourds and furniture, which are intricately painted. This piece too is from the Rio Balsas river region in Southern Guerrero, home to the Nahua Indians that paint these pieces in the same style as the amate bark paintings. Coffers and chests (bauls) were often intended as dowry chests used to store valuables. A fabulous capsule of colonial culture and indigenous folk art. Mexican 1937 Wood Carved Painted Folk Art Festival Tribal Mask Tourist Piece

Antique 1937 or OLDER Hand Carved Wood Hand Painted Festival Tribal Mask 15″ X 7″. I acquired this mask from a family who’s grandparents had brought it back from trip into Mexico. I was told this mask was acquired from the Southern region i don’t know if its tied to the region as historical or if it was just acquired from a local. As for its authenticity it is 100% original, but i do not believe this mask has tribal affiliation i believe it to be used for festivals or its just antique tourist trade piece, either way this was hand made from the region and is fairly old at 1937.
