Beautiful abstract geometric painting by well listed outsider artist Al Hoffman. Done in acrylic on artist board. Dated in black pen center right of back, 1979. Titled Garden of Eden. Hoffman was known for his biblical themed works. Operating a junkyard in Galloway Township near Atlantic City, Hoffman drew inspiration from biblical narratives, his Jewish heritage, and personal interests such as whaling, horse racing, and Native American themes. His body of work includes over 250 carvings, encompassing bas reliefs, columnar reliefs, and compositional groups. Hoffman’s art has been featured in several exhibitions, notably at the Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York, which hosted solo shows in 2007 and 2013. His pieces are held in esteemed collections, including the American Folk Art Museum, the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum, and the Noyes Museum of Art. Condition : good; could use a good cleaning as there is visible dirt especially along the bottom margin; some bubbling to the canvas where it has separated from the substrate, especially on the lower right corner. Some tiny areas of paint loss but overall intact for the most part.
