C1830 Watercolor Watch Paper Floral Love Birds Martha Honeywell. This is a very well done but a naive watercolor painting of love birds in a basket, surrounded by colorful flowers and leaves bordered by pointed/geared decoration. This artwork in on wove paper and dates to circa 1830 or so and measures about 2 inches in diameter. Colors are strong but with expected minor loss to the borders. Her broadsides and newspaper ads frequently mentioned watch papers. ” In addition, she often used “pin pricks to imitate stipple engravings. This current offering shows them clearly, especially on the verso. I looked very hard to see if I could locate any of her initials on this work, but I could not. The only period inking I see are the numbers “312” on the mid-center reverse. Love birds and bicolored flower petals are her usual theme. Although not signed, this artwork can stand on its own. The artwork is on fragile paper. I’ve placed it into an archival sleeve and placed it in-between plexiglass, so both sides can be viewed. It can be displayed as it is. But rest assured, what you see is exactly what you will receive. This item is in the category “Art\Paintings”. The seller is “01somewhere10″ and is located in this country: US. IMPORTANT CANADIAN FOLK ART PAINTING DONALDA FARM TORONTO SIGNED ANDRES. This is a very significant piece of Canadian History. It is an early image of the DONALDA farm outside of Toronto. It is signed M. Andres, and is likely a romanticized interpretation of the fabled farm. Even though the gate in the forefront says Alda Farm, its identity has been supported by the Donalda Country Club, and a member of the Dunlap Family, who not only built the farm, but paid for the Dunlap Observatory seen as a stylized domed building at the top center of the image. The farm was famous for its prized cattle, produce, and exceptional Rose Gardens. The figure in the carriage is likely Mrs. Jessie Donalda Dunlap, who financed the observatory after her husband David’s death in 1924 This picture was probably executed in the early 1930s prior to the observatory’s completion in 1936. The painting is executed on tin and is housed in a gilt wood frame. Dimensions With frame: 31.75″ wide x 19.5″ tall. Without frame: 28″ wide x 15 7/8″ tall.
