1917 – Contemporary Oil, Blossom In The Fields. A pretty Spring landscape in oil showing pink blossom trees in a rural landscape. There is an unfinished portrait study at the reverse. The painting is unsigned on board. The condition is typical for a picture of this age including some discolouration. There is some wear to the paint around the edges and general wear and dirt to the surface. Three is a large crease across the top third and a vertical scuff in the centre of the sky. Howard Finster ORIGINAL SIGNED painting On wood OX+SOULS 1993 Outsider Folk Art

This is a wonderful OX original painting / wood cut out by the legendary Southern Folk Art icon Revered Howard Finster. Rock n Roll preacher, designer and painter of Talking Heads Albums, prolific artist, cultural oddity and Southern legend Rev. Finster’s works are highly collectible and a vibrant part of American Folk Art history. Finster himself from his sculptural backyard dubbed “Paradise Garden” in the mid 1990s part of a larger Finster collection. This OX has his signature “lost soul” faces all over his body with names of people the Rev. Finster is praying for including Henry Ford, Hitler and himself! The Ox painting is mounted on a flat board which has a treatise on God and the creation of animals. On the back is his signature bird logo, and the lord’s prayer as well as the number of the piece and date. The principal colors are cream, olive green, black and rose colored spots on the ox /faces of the souls. This remarkable piece of folk art history has a lot of stories in it, as well as being a very cool looking art object. I love it a lot as it is part of a larger Finster collection of mine with prints, signed books and three other wood panels. I literally had to flip a coin to decide which piece I could bear to part with. Me sufres 11 inches high and 15 inches across. He is remembered for his album covers for the Talking Heads, anappearance on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, tons of press, a book about his work, collections of paintings, his presence in many private collections, a documentary by the Smithsonian, and curation in museums and galleries around the world. Finster was a Baptist minister and eccentric outsider/folk artist that stated God charged him to illustrate his religious visions in 1976 when while painting some bicycles for local kids, one of his signature “lost soul” faces appeared on his finger covered in white paint and”A warm feeling came over me to paint sacred art. His”sermons in paint” made him a folk art phenomenon. He also played banjo, sang, appeared in an REM video and never seemed to sleep. 1700s CARISBROOKE Isle of Wight oil painting for restoration G. EICHEL antique

15’Watchers’ currently – grab it! Antique old oil painting by artist G. EICHEL dating back to 1770 – 1779 or thereabouts is this beautiful and mysterious piece of local naive art depicting’Springvale Cottage’ and’Virginia Cottage’ with the local Carisbrooke Church in the background. It is a great source of inspiration despite its current state and will only be released at a price which reflects the level of curiosity it engenders when viewed by people who have actually been to, and know well, Carisbrooke on The Isle of Wight. The frame has two pieces of sticky paper relating to a visit to Carisbrooke the previous owner had made to find out more about the buildings you see and whether they still existed in 2009. Eichel, of which little has been found out so far, apparently exhibited at The Royal Academy in his day, the late 1700s that is. One reference refers to another painting he did of partridge shooters. This painting depicts English rural life in Hampshire as it was in those days, painted in rather muddy browns and soft airy light colours typical of sky and reflections in the large puddle in the foreground, possibly a low area in the town which regularly gets waterlogged during the rainy season. The painting could be posted without the frame if you choose so please message us about this, it adds to the weight but adds to the authenticity of the sheer age of the painting, ought to be hung in a museum wall over on the island as it represents an early depiction of rural life there as it was then. Thomson Georgia African American Oustider Artist Jake JT McCord Figural Painting

A native of Thomson Georgia, McCord took up painting on a whim and later on became known as one of Georges most beloved outsider artists. This painting features a woman with big blonde hair causally relaxing in a rocking chair. Quite the southern leisurely past time. She has big round eyes which gaze directly at the viewer. Just a charming lovely painting by this exceptional outsider artist. Painted on a large ply panel board and signed by the artist and dated 2003. Some wood splintering on bottom panel which could be the way it was originally painted on. Measurements: 48 x 32. McCord was born December 28, 1945. From the 1970s on, he lived in Thomson, Georgia, cutting grass for the city in the summer & driving a truck in the winter. McCord had been born at the family farm in Lincoln County, where his whole family, including Jake & his 11 brothers worked planting & picking crops. Reportedly he started painting in 1984, after he saw “some white ladies taking painting lessons at the Hawes Paint Store” in Thomson. He didn’t get a key to the trunk with the car, and it took him weeks of working at the lock with a screwdriver to get it open. In the trunk, he found a board on which someone had attempted a painting like the ladies in the paint store. Jake decided he could do better, so he took the board out and painted his own picture over it. His first subject was an alligator he saw on television, a source from which he derived most of his inspiration. As a rule, he painted on plywood nailing his finished paintings to the wall, under his covered porch. His bright, bold, humorous paintings were usually painted on boards, & his favorite subjects were farm animals, cats, dogs, houses, & women with big hairdos. He claimed his art was just for fun.
